Turn It On Again: Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins and Genesis

Firstly, this history is a must for all Genesis fans. It is a very well-written account, with one or two honest and wry observations (not least calling the track "Who dunnit" on Abacab "ghastly"). The text includes many quotes from band members and those who worked with them, which gives the whole book a thorough and authoritative air; the author is obviously a huge Genesis fan, which must make him a good bloke.However, I found - especially in the later chapters - the story going a little too far into Gabriel's activities to hold my attention. While it's obvious from the title, it distracts from the band's overall history to spend so much time on Gabriel to the detriment of the other members/former members. As a result, I think this book would be most enjoyed by Genesis fans who really feel that the band was at its very best when Gabriel was in it, and who followed Gabriel's subsequent career in tandem with Genesis.One other thing is that this book could really do with an update. It stops in 2005, and would definitely benefit from the author and publisher adding another couple of chapters to bring up to date.
