Seeds sprouted already in some pods. Easy to drop seeds into. Dropped pods into water and covered. Some are sprouted already. Going to put them into a hydroponics system.

These Replacement Grow Sponges fit my Shoild hydroponic system. I do not soak my grow sponges before I use them. I put the seeds right in these and put them in my hydroponic system and the seeds sprouted as they normally do. It is nice that they separated them into two, 60 pod packages in case you want to share or gift them but I will be using all of these on my indoor herb garden. I like to keep certain herbs in different stages of growth to guarantee I always have a fresh supply.

I've been using this seed starting system for eight years and love it - particularly for nightshades like tomatoes, peppers and eggplant - so I'm always shopping for cheaper grow sponges since they are the only ongoing expense (seeds are so cheap) and the whole key is to save money vs. buying seedlings. These are a bit smaller (shorter and narrower) than the last batch I purchased - which means you will want to be careful to saturate them and let them bulk up before putting them in the tray lest they sink too low and then expand and stick. But once in they've worked perfectly (they are on the right side, prior brand on the left, and I have near-100% germination of pepper seeds with these, with healthy looking sprouts.

We use a LOT of these type of sponges for one of our hydroponic systems (mostly lettuce and hot peppers), and they work great. Good moisture wicking, fits multiple systems and net pots (you can cut off the bottom for flat net pots), and at around 20¢ each they are also very economical.

The pods arrive sealed in 2 packs of 60. The width/thickness fits in my IDOO hydroponics system, although they are too long. My last IDOO system was smaller and used longer pods. I left them in long, but the length could be trimmed easily, if needed. I have had other pods fall apart, but these are sturdy. I soaked them first as directed and haven't had any problems. The seed hole depth is deeper than other pods which is fine for me. The current price is also really good for the quantity.

It has grown well after two weeks of use, with a high germination rate and strong growth. This little thing is quite useful!

The sponges fit well in my aerogarden however they started rotting in the first week and these eds did not germinate. My guess is the sponges are too dense and they don't allow water circulation. That's whay everything got moldy in a week. I have used other sponges in the past and every time it was a success. So I blame the sponges for this batch mold!
