The British military recruits a small group of highly-skilled soldiers to strike against Nazi forces behind enemy lines during World War II. Review: GREAT MOVIE! Funny AND action packed! 100% recommend - One of the funniest but action packed movies I’ve seen in a while! Definitely worth watching and would definitely recommend to others! Review: Good show. - It was humorous, lots of action, good acting, good location scenes, and based on a true story what more can someone want. Best thing there isn't any made up romance to take up time in the picture, have seen to many movies that throw in gratuitous sex just to fill space in the movie that actually has nothing to do with the story, it's just filler.

not as enjoyable as the TV show
The movie is about the real-life British SAS commandos during WW2. The movie is entertaining, but it was produced at about the same time as the TV show "Rogue Heroes" that covers similar material. I actually like the TV show a lot better. Perhaps because the TV show has more hours of screen time, it develops the characters, plots, and settings in much more detail. The first season of the TV show was broadcast before the movie and one more season has been released so far, with a 3rd season reportedly already in production.

Just like they used to make movies
After seeing snippets on YouTube, I decided to buy the dvd. Very glad I did. Very much enjoyed the movie! And I can watch it on my portable dvd player anywhere. The movie is based on an actual event. No cgi or green screens. Just like they used to make movies.

Are WW2 heroes better in a Star Wars plot?
This movie depicts the heroic efforts of WW2 British commandos who set out to hijack an Italian cargo ship and large German tug off the coast of Western Africa. In the original mission, amazingly, nobody was injured, and the stolen ships were towed out to sea where a British naval ship quickly intercepted them. One thing significant about movies from the 1940s and 1950s: they knew how to pace a movie to allow cameras enough time, so you really get to know a movie star. The pace in this movie quickly prevents you from spending any time with an actor, including Alan Ritchson ("Reacher"), other than by recognizing his large physical size. The majority of camera time was devoted to a fictional character played by actress Eiza González. Her character a make-believe heroic woman never mentioned in military dispatches. From her first appearance, this movie quickly becomes _her_ rescue and the movie is transformed into a kind of a Star Wars-styled plot where all the Stormtroopers get mowed down like white-painted blades of grass. And through it all, 35-year-old González does not get you concerned for her welfare, as a Princess Leia does - I meant, when 20-year-old Carrie Fisher was the princess. Too bad. Because the daylight scenes of this movie were vividly dramatic, aboard ship, and at sea. As soon as the commandos arrive, you're lost. You have no idea where you've landed. They don't waste camera time to look at a map. They like a 35-year-old's beautiful face. I like her too, but, uh. Oh, well.

An Exhilarating Wartime Saga!
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an exhilarating cinematic experience that takes viewers deep into the covert operations of World War II's most daring and unconventional British special forces unit. The film skillfully combines historical accuracy with a gripping narrative, making it an absolute must-watch for history buffs and action enthusiasts alike. From the opening scenes, the film sets a relentless pace, drawing the audience into the high-stakes world of espionage, sabotage, and guerilla warfare. The director's vision is crystal clear: this is not just another war movie, but a celebration of the unsung heroes whose bravery and ingenuity helped turn the tide of the war. Each scene is meticulously crafted to convey the tension and urgency that these operatives faced. The ensemble cast delivers stellar performances, breathing life into their characters with depth and authenticity. The actors capture the essence of their real-life counterparts, portraying not just their heroism, but also their vulnerabilities and personal struggles. The lead actor’s portrayal of the head of the unit is particularly compelling, balancing steely determination with moments of introspection that hint at the heavy burden of command. One of the film's standout features is its attention to detail. The period-accurate costumes, props, and settings transport viewers back to the 1940s, creating a visually immersive experience. The cinematography is nothing short of breathtaking, with sweeping shots of European landscapes juxtaposed against the gritty, close-quarter action scenes that define the film's pulse-pounding moments. The screenplay is a masterclass in storytelling. It adeptly weaves together the personal stories of the operatives with the broader context of the war, offering a nuanced look at the complexities of their missions. The dialogue is sharp and evocative, often laced with the dark humor and camaraderie that were essential to the unit's morale. Each mission depicted in the film is meticulously planned and executed, showcasing the ingenuity and resourcefulness that defined the unit’s operations. The action sequences are where The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare truly shines. The film does not shy away from the brutal realities of war, delivering intense, visceral combat scenes that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The choreography is precise, and the use of practical effects over CGI adds a layer of authenticity that enhances the overall viewing experience. These sequences are balanced with moments of quiet tension, where the operatives’ wit and cunning are as crucial as their combat skills. The film’s score is another highlight, perfectly underscoring the action and emotional beats. The music swells at just the right moments, amplifying the tension and triumphs without overshadowing the narrative. It’s a testament to the composer’s talent that the score feels both epic and intimately tied to the characters’ journeys. What sets this film apart is its ability to humanize its protagonists while celebrating their extraordinary achievements. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is not just a tale of war, but a tribute to the resilience and ingenuity of those who operated in the shadows. Their stories are brought to life with such vividness that viewers can’t help but feel a profound respect for the sacrifices they made. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is a masterful blend of historical drama and action, offering a poignant and thrilling look at one of the most fascinating chapters of World War II. It’s a film that stays with you long after the credits roll, a powerful reminder of the heroism that history often overlooks.
