Easy installation, high quality!
This is an easy to install, high quality piece. I previously had several of the two pulley bike hangers and they were much more of a tedious process to hang. With this unit, you just have to find a stud, drill a pilot hole, insert the anchor and run the rope. The mechanism operates well and seems to be high quality. The only problem, which is inherent in a single mounting point design is that sometimes the bike can rotate or not hang parallel to the wall. It’s not really a big deal, but might bother some.

Works OK for a bike
However, the single pivot point for the pulley allows the bike to swing and turn. That might be ok for some but I find it to be a problem.

Buy Harken- very high quality
There are other hoosts available for less, but Harken is very well made. Also, they have a whole line of hoists, one of which will be just right for you.

Sturdy, works as advertised
I used this to hoist a 45 lb bike to my garage ceiling and it works as advertised.

Awesome and simple concept with limitations
I hoisted a 50 lb. ladder using the Harken device, and it was smooth sailing. My ceilings are about 8 ft high, and as others have noted, you have to get a very particular angle on the release rope (and maintain it) in order to lower the unit. The requires holding the release rope well over my head to maintain the release mechanism. Not ideal for lowering a heavy object but it works. Higher ceilings would make this nearly impossible to use without adaptation. One option might be to run the release rope through a pully at ceiling level, which would increase the leverage to release the mechanism. But out of the box, it's a great idea with sometimes frustrating results.

Well built and easy to install.
Works to hang bicycles in the garage for the winter. Easy to get down with the trip-catch as part of the system

Great design and functionality
This makes it so incredibly easy. Harken makes great sailing products so quality is there. It doesn’t matter which way you ceiling joists go since only single point attachment- don’t need 1 x 6 or whatever. Keeps stable but can rotate bikes some so can put them closer together- if concerned you can fashion some cleat on the wall but I just coiled extra line and put on a pedal so no lines running out to walls- I don’t have little kids and they feel very stable. A bit more expensive but feels it.
