Setting Up and Running A Limited Company 5th Edition: A Comprehensive Guide to Forming and Operating a Company as a Director and Shareholder

Was expecting much more detail
I bought this book expecting that it would be a comprehensive guide and effectively provide checklists for setting up and running a limited company, but it fell short of my expectations. Whilst there is a broad outline, it lacked detail in areas where I was hoping for detail and often suggested referring to an accountant, tax advisor, some other specialist or doing some further research on the internet. Examples of a number of the company house forms represents a relatively large proportion of the book. These forms can be easily downloaded from the internet, so I don't think this added much value.

Out of date and full of padding
Billed as a 'comprehensive guide' but that is not the case. It's vague in most places and is seriously out of date - still referring to the Companies Act 1985 even though this was replaced by the Companies Act 2006 - 6 years before this edition of the book was published. There are also pages and pages of padding achieved by printing forms which you can easily and freely download from the Companies House website. If you know absolutely nothing about limited companies and how to start one then this book might be of some use, but there are better options out there.

Solid info!
I have done a lot of this running ltd. companies0 in the past but why wing it when you can have clear direction from an expert?Writer has a great writing style and knows his stuff.Good tips on business plans as well.Recommend even if you have been involved with limited companies and the like before.

Not much substance
Having read this book, I was still none the wiser as to the ins and outs of running a limited company.I was expecting a checklist of items required to get the company up and running, and another for the requirements and responsibilities later, such as filing your tax accounts. It answered a few basic questions, but I still only found the detail I needed on the companies house or HMRC websites, and I suggest that potential buyers look there too!

Good update on a great book
The simple way the content is presented is appealing, and the update for the law changes is usefully explained. If you want to know how to set up a company, this book and the Companies House website are all you need. Don't pay someone else what you can do with a bit of help.
