The First Time Dad's Pregnancy Handbook Review: Must have read for future dads - I gifted this to my husband when we found out we were expecting and couldn't be happier with it. The chapters are very short and easy to read, with checklists and visuals that make complex information simple to understand. My husband works 10-12 hour shifts and is still able to keep up with what week we're on. The chapters are not full of "bro" language, and the author encourages partners to build healthy relationships with mom-to-be and baby + enforce healthy boundaries and advocate on her behalf. My husband seems more engaged and will ask me questions based on what he's learned each week. Highly recommend this book to any future dad. Review: Informational and funny - Great book! First time dad and I’m not much on reading but this was very informational and funny. Highly recommend for first time dads.

Humorous but informative
Bought for my son. The book is on the smaller side and very thick. Will take some breaking in to hold it open to read it. The print is smaller since the book is but not unreadable. I think my son will appreciate the writers humor and how much information is in the book.

Really cool guide for Dads
Adrian Kulp’s book manages to be both informative and entertaining. It’s well-organized to help fathers who are in the heart of the process, figure out their role during pregnancy and in the first months after birth. At the same time, it’s clever, funny and artistically beautiful. My kids are 4 and 5 years old, and we don’t plan to have any more (well, I don’t plan to, which is probably not the most important factor). So in one sense, I’m not necessarily the target audience here. But I enjoyed it anyway because it brought back memories I had forgotten. I can also attest to the accuracy of some of the advice that I wish I had heeded. There are numerous examples, but one that stands out is the necessary conversation about who you want in the delivery room – the friends and family dilemma that we didn’t address and should have. I love the various metaphors the author uses, including numerous analogies to sporting events; e.g. comparing the second trimester to running out the clock in a football game. I also enjoyed the “brownie points” section in many of the chapters, which detail some things I just didn’t know about during my wife’s pregnancies and after; a push gift and bra shopping are a few examples. I’m sure there have been books written from the Dad’s perspective. I don’t think there have been any books that put it all together this well. It’s a very busy and frankly overwhelming time, and you’re really flying blind a bit especially with your first child. A guide that’s easy to use and actually enjoyable, is something all new dads should have. And for those who have closed shop, if you’re looking to feel some nostalgia and be entertained at the same time, this book is a great choice as well.

Loved the “stats” format.
I went through the 1 star reviews and I sincerely beg to differ! This book was super-helpful and didn’t have any “bro” language in it that distinctly shows up. I was actually looking for an informative book that wasn’t condescending or had any of that “bro talk” in it. Does it frame it toward a general male persoective? Yes, that’s the point of the book. Light humor? Yes because a little bit of humor helps to take the edge off of a very serious and monumental transition that first time dads often stress over. But it was in no way condescending like some readers reported (in my opinion at least). I would read the baby stats and mom stats to my wife, and it was such a bonding experience that we looked forward to each week. The book framed it in such a way that made things much more manageable and as a result lowered the anxiety that comes with many first time dads. If you’re a first time father to be, I highly recommend the book. It’s enjoyable, informative and I love some the suggestions it gives to be loving and supportive throughout the journey. Good luck dad!

For moms too
Even though it’s marketed for dads I found this book so helpful as a first time mom

I ordered this book for my husband to be able to get an insight into the pregnancy and what I was going through and it was absolutely brilliant. It is very informative with plenty of facts, he loves the week by week countdown to the pregnancy and the helpful hints of what he can be doing to help me and help us prepare together. All the other father books I tried were quite patronising or seemed to be aimed at young dads or unwilling dads but this was is perfect - highly recommend it!

This book is perfect to read with your partner. It explains week by week the changes happening and it gives pieces of advice to the dad-to-be. Well written and pleasant to read. Totally recommend it as a gift for your partner.

This book describes the major events in pregnancy, week by week. It also includes a fourth trimester section. It was really nice having this book because it describes how the baby evolves but also what the mum is going through and some tips for the helpful father. All in plain language, very easy to follow, and you can literally read each chapter every week.

Purchased for my son & What to expect when you’re expecting for my DIL. I honestly thought it would sit on a shelf. My son is constantly referring to this or that within the book. He’s enjoying following along & sharing in this journey with his beautiful wife.
