Exceptional clarity and detail in the mid-range and top-end – but rather lacking in bass response
Electrostatic headphones work on a different principal to conventional models and various versions have come and gone over the years. Hi-Fi buffs may remember the original Electrostatic Loudspeakers, made by Quad, which worked on a similar principal to these headphones and were very highly regarded by many who heard them. The disadvantage of the electrostatic models is the lack of bass from the lightweight plastic membrane - Mitchell and Johnson have attempted to overcome this on the GL1 by adding a conventional driver to extend the bass response but this only works to a certain degree. The M & J GL1 is a very interesting model that can sound exceptional with certain material and the clarity and detail in the mid-range and top-end is well worth hearing – however, the bass response will not be good enough for many listeners who like a bit more oomph in the low end. The GL1 also needs a long burn-in period to get the best sound out of them – 100 hours typically – and although they sound good out of the box they will improve if you are patient with them. The GL1 is the entry-level model in the Mitchell and Johnson range and is well worth auditioning if you are looking for something a bit different – but try to hear them before purchasing if possible. I bought mine as a Black Friday deal and I am pleased with them for the I price paid – however, at around two hundred pounds currently from Amazon I would seriously consider a different model if you like a powerful bass response.

nein leider
