For the past month, I have been giving this Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diet-Dermatologic Management dog food primarily to a small older short haired female dog with skin issues (dry and sensitive skin, skin bumps, inflammation, periodic paw infections, etc.) and it has made a great difference in her coat, skin, and overall health. She loves it, and a brief look at the salutary ingredient list on the side of the bag reveals why virtually any dog would love it, as it includes trout, oat meal, beef fat, fish oil, and other things dogs love. Most of those ingredients dogs literally drool for. The bag also contains a quantitative breakdown of categories of nutrients, such as stating it contains a minimum of 24% crude protein, 15% crude fat, 4% crude fiber, 12% moisture, 0.8% Omega 3 fatty acids, and 1.2% Omega-6 fatty acids. Given how much my dog enjoys eating this, I would say it probably tastes great to her and to other dogs. This 25-pound bag of dog food is similar to other dog food bags, but the pellets inside are much different in terms of quality and freshness. The pellets have bright and fresh looking brown and tan colors (see photos), not lifeless brown or tan colors that I have seen in many other brands of dog food. The pellets also have a strong and fresh fish oil smell, and the bag states they contain Omega 3 and Omega 6 oils, which the fish oil smell distinctly evidences. The pellets are medium sized, semi-dry with a good moisture content (bag states minimum 12% moisture content), and modestly hard (I can take a pellet and use my thumb and index finger to squish it somewhat easily). When I hold a handful of the pellets in my hand or put such in my pocket, tiny granules of such will come off and get on my hand and the interior of my pocket (see photos), which indicates the pellets break apart and can be chewed and digested easily. While the pellets have a tiny amount of softness to them due to their moisture content, I have typically given them to the small female dog with water added to soften them even more, but she has also eaten them without water added and had no noticeable difficulty doing so. During the first week of giving this to her, she was more energetic and playful. During the second and third weeks, her coat and skin began improving: her coat began shining more and was softer and healthier looking, and her skin was moister and not as dry, some inflammation was diminished, and her skin was overall softer and smoother. These things have continued as she has continued eating this. She has also not had any diarrhea or noticeable adverse effects from consuming this regularly for weeks. On these bases, this product has actually been great and very effective for my dog and her skin and coat. I think that the price (about $134 at the time of this review) is worth it considering the quality, freshness, size, and nutritional content, as well as its pedigree. This product is made in the U.S.A. by one of the most reputed and trusted dog food brands in the world (Purina) and such brand has been in business for many decades. It also comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee on the bag (see photos), and such guarantee as well as this product’s overall excellent quality, freshness, and nutritional content reflect Purina’s commitment to providing excellent nutritional products for all dogs, including those with skin issues. For all of the foregoing reasons, I rate this product as 5 stars, highly recommend it for dogs with skin issues, and believe it to be a super value for dogs with skin issues.

We have a Boxer who has allergies...this has been the best dog food for her, and we have tried a lot of different brands.

First off, I must say, I am currently a Purina One customer. But on this particular product, here's my opinion: What I like ... It shows how many (approx) cups the bag contains so for my 86 lb dog that eats 4+ cups a day, and a 50-ish lb dog that will eat about 3+ cups a day, so a 25 lb bag should last around two weeks (104 cups divided by 7 cups per day). 25 lb bag is easy to lift/carry. No Corn or Wheat, no artificial colors or flavors. Extra supplements that should help skin allergies. What I don't like ... Very little meat content - just "trout" - that's where the "high quality protein" comes from - one meat source - and how much of it is there vs the rest of the ingredients? Do dogs need carbohydrates??? It's expensive @ the current price of $133.99 ($5.36 / lb)! If I notice any benefit to either of my dogs I will update but for now I'll try to integrate it into their current diet (mentioned above). My goldendoodle has a combination of a sensitive stomach, food allergies, and skin allergies. She's an adorable mess. We removed her from a diet that included chicken or beef and that settled most of her issues. Our vet immediately put us on Purina Pro Plan and we've had great success although she tires of the food. This was a new option and both my vet and dog were very happy with it. This has further reduced her itching and the simple ingredients are ideal for a dog like mine. It has passed the taste test, and we haven't had any gastrointestinal issues while slowly mixing it into her existing food. Purina Pro Plan is not cheap, but I've found it's well worth the cost based on what it delivers.

We always give our dog, Pro Plan and this is a food that claims to help with itchy skin. I have been giving it to my dog and he loves it. I like the smaller size pieces, since he is getting older and it is harder for him to chew larger, hard pieces. He has had no stomach issues with this food, so I can continue to feed it to him. I also noticed, that he has not itched all day, since eating it. He is always itching and rolling on the floor and none of that for days. This is a great food for your pups that have sensitive skin issues. A brand I trust.

Dog eats it. Is it really helping with coat and nail issues? Well, we are on the third bag, so a couple of months in… and frankly, I don’t think so. Expensive. Committed to 6 month trial but seriously, for the money, I think I could go back to Orijen and add supplements for less money.

Our medium sized pup has lots of allergies and skin issues, and this food suits his system well. I like that it is healthy for my pup and taste good to him. I feel like this brand uses great quality ingredients and is a reliable, go to product for us.

Over 1/2 of a 25 lb bag has been eaten. My dog still has skin problems. The dogs seem to like the food, but it has not helped with my Yorkies skin problems. I was hoping to avoid allergy shots.
