Excellent Series for Music Majors!
OMG! We love this series and the lecturer is incredible! Very highly recommend if you really want to learn about, and actually absorb, the subject matter. Interesting and informative. Stays with you.

Absolutely great lectures!
I like how the material is structured and the way it is conveyed. I personally like prof. Greenberg's style. I recommend it.

disappointing
I agree with the others: too much talk and too little music! How can you learn about music without hearing it?? And when the talk is relevant, which it rarely is, he uses terms without defining them! I often found myself running to the dictionary. Part of the problem is the title. First, why "great?" Who defines "great" music and why should we only learn about that? Second, it is not really about how to listen to music, but about the history of western music, and a lot about the history of European civilization in general (with a lot of digressions and irrelevancies). If that is your interest, then - assuming he's accurate, which I have no idea - you might enjoy this, but if you're a musical ingnoramus like me and want to learn how to "listen to and understand" any kind of music, then this course won't get you very far. I will admit that he sort of grew on me as the course went on, but I certainly didn't find what I was hoping for, and I'm very glad I took this out of the library rather than pay for it!
