Simple Sourdough: How to Bake the Best Bread in the World

I found the information useful although widely available from other sources and I did not like the author's style. Why?I am not going to start with so many loaves of bread. The author suggests making lots then giving some to neighbors. I would like to ensure its quality so a one loaf recipe would have been very nice. Instead he said to make less just do the math yourself.I also found some of the author's comments to be flippant which is something do not need in book about bread.

I got this pamphlet ( let's face it, that's what it is ) in the hopes of making bread without a bread maker or yeast. I wasn't sure how this was going to work without using yeast but I was curious. I tried this recipe. I am so glad I did. It is wonderful. I shared it because I can't eat 4 loaves of bread by myself.It is so easy to do. The most difficult part for me was waiting for it to rise. I persevered though and continued to wait for my yeast to form. I just knew I was going to fail but my yeast formed just like it was suppose to within 2 days so I continued on with the directions. By the time I was finished waiting for this second rising to I counted my blessings for this new recipe.It is so healthy and once you make the starter yeast, you never have to make it again.Try it yourself. You have nothing to lose but some flour. It is a good start for a happy experience.

This little book is the best! I love sourdough bread, but have not found any good bread living in the midwest. I miss the sourdough I could find in super markets on the west coast. I’ve tried different recipes but gave up when things didn’t work out like I wanted. Besides being delicious, these instructions are deliciously easy!

I had inferred from what I read in the past that the only way to make sourdough was to get starter from someone and use it as an initial colony for making sourdough. This book explains how to make sourdough from scratch including making your own starter. I've made more than a few loaves since then using the sourdough recipe in the book, including sourdough rye bread. The bread is delicious and I am grateful that I found this book.The book is short, and in that way I feel a bit shortchanged, as I got a few pages for what I paid. But when I consider the health value of the bread I make and will continue to make with my own culture, I reconsider and feel it was well worth the price. Great book!!

This book is great! The author provides clear, concise, step-by-step instructions for making sourdough bread. Who knew there were yeast spores floating around in the air? This “recipe” is an easy-to-follow roadmap to some awesome bread.

When it comes to making homemade bread I find the simpler instructions often prove the most helpful to me, and the easiest to actually use. This little how-to booklet is a great little guide for starting me off on starters :) Thanks!

As other reviewers have pointed out, if you're looking for a cookbook with dozens of sourdough bread recipes -- this may not be exactly what you are looking for. This is a 16 page essay on what sourdough is and how to make a simple starter -- and I love it! I've tried a number of starters: yogurt based, yeast based, store bought, and Mr. Shepard's method is the only starter that produces a nice active, bubbly starter. THIS IS NOT A RECIPE FOR THE IMPATIENT.I liked this booklet because it gives a basic understanding of what sourdough really is and how simple it is to make a good sourdough starter. From there you can develop any number of good breads, biscuits, etc. His method takes a little more time, but the end result is worth the effort.

Had a very good recipe for home made sourdough starter, and the price for this Kindle book couldn't be beat: Free. I recommend for people with gluten sensitivity, as sourdough lessens the bad effect of gluten. I like the way he writes like telling a story. However there are no UK metric weight and measures. No pictures or drawings to guide you, and only one recipe,hidden in the narrative. As a single person, I would have to get a stand mixer to knead that amount of dough , and freeze two or three loaves. This is three times the amount made in the New Artisan bread in 5 books.To be honest , this e book is annoying.

There is a lot of mysticism and even a touch of magic, perhaps, surrounding this subject.This book debunks all the myths surrounding sourdough starters. It's common sense approach makes it possible for those of us who are not master bakers or even wizards to enjoy the best bread with ease and confidence.l wish that I had this knowledge years ago!

Just the basic instructions, without the variations, which is all you need really. Basic instructions are clear and concise, so should be read by anybody interested in making sourdough. Also, they appear to work! For a free book, what more do you want?

It certainly gave you an idea of what sourdough was all about but if I hadn't done a lot more research i would still have been unsure about how to go about creating a sourdough loaf.. Also most recipes give instructions using 1lb or 500 grams of flour but this book said to use 6lbs. Way too much unless you want to start a bakery. not as clear as I'd hoped.

I am intrigued by Sourdough, the process behind it and how to make bread.The book is really short and to the point, but it gives you a real fast insight into the subject.A good book for a beginner to learn the basics.Can't wait to try Sourdough out for myself.Great read!
