Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI, Auto Intelligent Flash Photography

Purchased this because the built in flash on my 77D sucks. It never pops up properly and the sensor is terrible so I wanted an external flash. This was plug and play. Popped it on my camera and it's great. Auto bounce is astounding and very easy to use semi-auto to set bounce yourself. I haven't used all the features yet, but what I have used works great. Only issue I had was that there is a pull out diffuser above the flash. Auto bounce won't work when this is employed (no biggie) but when you return it to the slot, you have to make sure it snaps all the way in or it keeps auto-bounce disabled. Highly recommend this product!

Great flash, love the AI for bounce lighting without harsh shadows !!! Only negative is that is uses AA batteries and doesn't have a rechargeable battery pack. I use rechargeable AAs, but the life of those are terrible... this thing eats batteries fast. Other than that, it's definitely a great time saver for wedding photography when needing soft lighting.

It is a very good concept for adding the AI function, I used it few times, it is pretty useful.In a studio setup, I am still prefer the 600ex, the AI function is good add on, its good for someone does not have much experience in bounce photography. the AI solve the big problem for many regular users.overall I am really impressed by this flash, even thought it only covers till 105mm but its enough for most of the uses!

I am just an amateur photographer: I find this flash unit (which replaced a 15 years old Canon) Easy to use and quite efficient and versatile; I use it for happy family and friends affairs as well as for portrait projects with my EOS 5D MK II.

This thing is NICE! Of course, the pro doesnt necessarily need it, but it can still be of service to a pro. Especially in tricky rooms where you want to be quick. Saves time and weight too cause you dont need the bracket. Now it is a robot, so sometimes it doesnt get it quite right, especially bouncing off dark colored surfaces, but most times its spot on. I will say it's not so much for artistic photos where you might WANT shadows, or simply want more control, but a great tool for beginners or those who just want nicely flashed photos without hassle. Works well in manual mode too, performs like a 430. Sadly, cannot be used as a master. The hardest thing you'll go thru is getting people to look at the lens instead of the cool head on your camera moving by itself...

They really got it right with this flash. Not only is it a great regular flash, but when you use the bounce feature you get amazing photographs. I use it on my T7i and it just makes all the difference as it eliminates so much of the shadows it's unreal. When I bought it the price was a little higher than I would have liked it to be...but I wouldn't trade it for any other. It fits my needs and that's what matters. It's too bad that it wont work on anything less than a T7i. Not even on the T7. My sister has a T6, and hopes they develop one for that model and for the others as well. Check Canons website for the other models this works on.

I have used Canon flash units for years and this is by far the best unit on the market ! Taking wedding photos anywhere inside is a pleasure with the flash doing the work of keeping the flash out of the eyes with bounce functions.
