Very good for its price-point
First, a couple of qualifiers: My five-star review is heavily influenced by how much this costs and how impressed I am with it as a stand-alone unit. This is not necessarily a five-star product compared to other products that cost hundreds of dollars more than this, or are competing in otherwise entirely separate classes or categories. This is a five-star review of a $170 (at the time of purchase) boombox. You may be cross-shopping this with other products that cost more, or are otherwise higher-end or competing in different spaces, and I'm not attempting to suggest this is as good as, better, or worse than those. If I'm comparing to anything else, I'll note that in my review. Some background: I exist almost entirely in the JBL ecosystem. I have a JBL Xtreme, and a couple of JBL Charge speakers of differing generations. I've never not been happy with my JBL products, but I just spent a long weekend at a cabin with friends and took my JBL Xtreme speaker as portable sound. Not a complaint, necessarily, about the Xtreme, but when we got home and I was moving things around, it slipped out of my hand and landed on the tile floor, breaking some of the trim. Entirely cosmetic, but I decided I needed something more purpose designed for moving around, i.e. something with a handle. My immediate instinct was to look at the JBL Boombox. But wow is it expensive. I've dabbled in Anker/Soundcloud products before, and as much as I've wanted to love them, I just haven't. Most of them have been returned, because of audio issues, connectivity issues, or just general quality of construction problems. But this kept popping up in my searches, and people seemed to be happy with it. I figured maybe they've finally hit the mark. And at $80 less than listing price, I figured it was a pretty low risk gamble. I've been pretty happy so far with it. It's solid and feels sturdy. The sound quality, especially after you give it some time to break in, feels like it punches well above its weight. With the Bass-up feature turned on, it's very bassy, but not like Beats by Dre bass. It doesn't make the sound muddy. Just punchy. Compared to the JBL Xtreme, it definitely doesn't feel as high-end of construction. But it feels well put together. Some more premium materials-- like rubberized instead of hard plastics-- would be nice, but they probably don't affect the overall experience. One thing I will note is that the JBL sounds better inside, but the Soundcore sounds better outside. The JBL needs walls for its optimal sound. The Soundcore doesn't seem to rely as heavily on them. I can't compare it to the JBL Boombox, but that's also a lot more expensive, so I don't feel like that's a fair comparison. The custom EQ settings are fine, but I think it's fine using Soundcore's "signature" EQ setting for most music. The lights are fun, but I ultimately turned them off for battery longevity. I've not tested the water resistance, and don't plan to, but I'll trust them on their rating. I can't comment on the Auracast, as of now, but the party-mode from JBL has been pretty disappointing, so if it's at least as good as that, it's fine. Overall, this is exactly what I want for exactly what I need: a portable speaker for picnics, beach, cabin, etc. It's much louder than it deserves to be. At home, I've kept the outdoor volume around 40% to not annoy the neighbors. It's not the nicest, or most impressive, or sexiest rig out there. But I can confidently say it's a solid entry in the relatively inexpensive portable boombox market.

Absolutely the Best Bluetooth Speaker I've Ever Owned!
I've owned both the JBL Charge 4 and the JBL Xtreme 2, and after spending time with the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus (140W), I can honestly say it's the best portable Bluetooth speaker I've ever purchased. The difference is noticeable from the first song. The Boom 2 Plus delivers deeper, more powerful bass, cleaner vocals, and much better overall clarity, even at high volumes. It gets significantly louder than both of my JBL speakers while maintaining impressive sound quality with very little distortion. The customizable EQ in the Soundcore app lets you fine-tune the sound exactly the way you like it, making it even more enjoyable. Battery life has been excellent, the Bluetooth connection is rock solid, and the build quality feels premium. I also love the LED lighting effects they're a nice touch without being over the top. Compared to my JBL Charge 4 and JBL Xtreme 2, the Boom 2 Plus simply offers more power, stronger bass, better sound customization, and better value for the money. It feels like a speaker in a completely different league. If you're on the fence, don't hesitate. This speaker exceeded all my expectations, and I would buy it again without thinking twice. Highly recommended!

Loud and clear
This thing slams! We had a small Sonos Roam and that was OK for light usage or to take paddle boarding’s . I’m currently listening to ADTR at 1/4 to 1/3 the max volume and it’s crazy loud. The higher wattage version was absolutely worth the few extra dollars. It’s heavy but that’s somewhat expected with the larger electronics and speaker magnets. The front speakers handle the mids and highs while the sides handle the lows. The app is great and I had already been using it with the Space ONE headphones, so it was very easy to add and adjust settings. I can’t imagine using this without the bass boost and a custom EQ, so it’s great those features are included and easy to use. One big negative is the bluetooth connectivity is almost too good. It would automatically pair my phone and my wife’s phone regardless of who turned it on or who wanted to connect. There is a setting in the app that allows for dual connections, you just need to turn that off and it should make it bearable. It was really annoying. The lighting is OK. It’s not something I wanted or needed with a speaker but it’s easy enough to disable.

Great speaker
I bought this last year to enjoy on the river. Unfortunately it didn't arrive on time, but I've been using it since with no issues. This year I was able to test it on the river. I went tubing and went down a bridge which flipped myself and the tube, the speaker disappeared under the vortex for several seconds and eventually popped up, music still blasting and all. This speaker has great sound, great battery life and is rugged. I'd definitely buy it again.

Satisfied but not impressed
Decent speaker but not perfect. I got mine for $174 on black Friday 2025 and that feels like a fair price. Quality is decent. Speaker feels solid and well built. I've used the strap that it comes with frequently and it has bounced off of various hard surfaces rather hard and it takes the hits like a champ. Not too heavy not too bulky. Relatively easy to take around and use on the go especially with the strap it comes with. Sound quality is decent. There is a really nice equalizer setting on the app and it offers amazing adjustments but I don't have the ear or patience to set that up so I use their "soundcore premium" preset with bass boost and it works for me. Thats where the sound quality dives for me though. You really need the bass boost for the speaker to sound good. Otherwise you'll be staring at it wondering why such a big speaker sounds so weak. On the other hand if you plan on turning it up really loud you have to turn the bass boost off because you'll blow the speakers. That hasn't happened to mine but I did turn up a bass heavy trance song all the way one time and could hear the sub cracking and popping from overuse. Haven't used the bass boost and high volume at the same time since. The sound quality without bass boost does get decent at high volumes though. Just remember to turn off bass boost before turning up. Battery is a disappointment. 20 hour life advertised but I get about 9 to 15 hours. Around 13 hours with volume at 50% or less, lights off and bass boost on and battery life varies heavily depending on how loud I play it. That turnout isn't bad but I work 10 hour shifts and if I don't mind the volume it won't last the 10 hours. Bummer for me since I wanted to just use it and not worry about it but instead I have to mind the volume and I worry if it'll make it to the end of shift some days. Bluetooth connectivity works as expected. No issues with dropping connection and connects right away. Overall I wouldn't pay $1 over $200 for it if I just had to have it. I'm satisfied with it but not impressed. I would have definitely returned it if I paid the $250 retail for it but at the $174 I paid its a decent speaker. It's a good jack of all trades speaker but you gotta take care to not be too hard on the speakers with the bass boost. I've had mine for around 3 months now and it still sounds good and battery is still holding up. Long term reliability is still up in the air though so time will tell on that.

Bang bang BANG for the buck!
Holy crap!! This thing rocks! It sounds far better is much bigger and gets far louder than I ever expected it to do! This was a great choice and it's a lot of bang for the buck. This will be great at the pool and the kids will love it!

No complaints!
I'm not an audiophile like some of you all, but I do appreciate a good-sounding system, and I do like me some bass. That said, this may not be the best for those who love jazz or other instrumental. This has been a great purchase for not only listening indoors (replacing the weak Amazon Echo) but also having it outside on our deck while we're enjoying this summer weather. We also went paddle boarding last weekend, and I brought it out on the lake with it strapped to my board. The fact that it's waterproof and can float makes its utility that much more practical. Battery life is pretty impressive as well. If you can, wait till it goes on sale.

Superb product!
First of all every anker product I have has been exceptional and this one is no different. It is easy to set up, easy to use and it sounds fantastic! Even with the factory pre set sound parameters it is amazing! The bass is surprising from the 2 small woofers. The lights are a nice touch as well. One of the other impressive features is the volume, this thing is loud and even on the loudest setting the music is still clear. The free soundcore app adds customization to the light and equalizer settings. I have been an audio junkie for decades and this unit impressed me in every way. Anker knocked it out of the park with this one!

UN ESCANDALO
Impresionante, por la mitad de precio que un JBL, se escucha mejor y mucha mas potencia que el Charge 5 nuevo.
