Q: can the blade be removed for cleaning?

No. The blade does not detach for cleaning.

Q: Can you use this in a hot pot of soup with the heat still on?

I use it in hot soap mixture. I would take the pot off the heat due to the cord, then put the pot back on the burner. Help this helps.

Q: Is the bottom of this mixer (not the blade but the actual bottom that touches the pot) plastic or metal? Llooking for plastic that does not ruin pots

plastic. the whole thing is plastic. the only thing i am not crazy about is it does not come apart. in order to wash it you just put it in water and turn it on the clean the blade, my other one came apart to clean
