AGPTEK A02XT MP3 player
This AGPTEK A02XT MP3 player is a great small device. It's not perfect, but for the price, it does all that I need. Rate it 4.5 Good Value for money Size & weight Functionality Battery life Not so good Speaker Menu The speaker is a pathetic thing, and not worth having. I don't need it, so no loss for me. The menu system is a bit quirky, but once you have gotten used to it, it does the job. The transfer of file from a PC to the device is slow. Something I do infrequently, so no major issue. The music sounds good to my old ears. The bluetooth works fine, and you have the option to disable it, which helps with the battery life. Useful simple on/off switch. See the video for the time to switch on (8 seconds).

Good value so far!
I have a media lead that accepts a USB straight to my car stereo. Not wanting to faff with Bluetooth and use my phone whilst driving I took a punt on this mp3 player. My last was a Sony Walkman from many year's ago. To replace would cost a good £200 odd. So far the build quality and ease of use is spot on. I never bother using software with these thing's. Simply drag and drop. Connects as soon as I start the car and can be controlled through my steering wheel. So far very impressed with the price and memory should I want to can be increased. Super small too so can stow away out of sight. Thumbs up👍

Still happy with brand since 2010.
I bought a red Aptek mp3 player in 2016 and another pink one in 2021. I updated in 2016 from a one I bought in 2010 which broke after dropping too many times. I use the red one when I'm in the garden or when doing DIY or painting walls. Over the years I have realised that playing tracks on my phone just drains the battery and my tablet is too big and expensive to cart around a room when sawing and painting etc so an mp3 player is perfect. The red Aptek is in its death throes and so I replaced with this new one in black (as I have the pink one I use for travelling long flights etc). This is a real step up because it's better at connecting via Bluetooth but also plays without headphones in which the past ones don't. Much better/clearer screen even though same sized as old ones. The middle button commands are better. Yes the menus are basic but easy not to go wrong. I use plug in Panasonic over the ears headphones as I wear glasses and can't use in ear pods so still using old ones in new mp3 player. I'm not looking for top of the range sounds as I'm a pleb listener not an audio geek. This mp3 player did not come with earphones as the old ones did. Considering the old one cost me £28 in 2016 I happy with today's price and certainly happy with longevity of product.

Embarrasing
Absolute junk. It seemed promising at first, looked to be a slight upgrade from the typical generic mp3 player that many companies slop out. USB-C, UI overhaul, controls that make sense, decent feeling buttons, extra functional buttons and a reassuring weight. However, the headphone jack didn't override the pointless on-board speaker, meaning it's useless in public... why even have a speaker when it's that awful, who knows. The player also crashed multiple times trying to load music, resetting all my settings, and loading any song in the first place isn't instant like the other generic mp3 players, it takes a good 3-4 seconds. Perhaps I just got a dud, because it does seem to be an improvement build-quality and design wise... but this is the point of QC, and they shouldn't have sent it. £30 in 2025 for a box that plays mp3s... that can't even do that, is rather embarrasing.

Disaster UI, but relatively inexpensive and might just do the job
Bought this to have a smaller mp3 player to use with bluetooth headphones (my old one is an xDuoo where they actually spent money on the DAC/Amp and it shows in bulk). Navigating the menu system is beyond awkward. Sometimes "go back" is the |<< key, sometimes the M is. It seems to largely ignore directories (they show up as empty "Playlists," though if you pick the "Folder" menu (top right on the entry screen), you can navigate to the folder and play its content (in some arbitrary order). Speaking of playlists, other than the 3 on-device ad-hoc playlists, I have no idea what format it would take (or the path of the files on the player, so no way to make them). It claims to do ebooks (txt files), pictures and videos as well but the display is too small and dim to make that relevant for anybody, so I hope it didn't add to the price. There's supposedly an FM radio, though not sure where FM is still used. Again, other than cluttering the UI, not doing much for me. Playing music works OK, but in my case all it does is probably take the bits from disk and send them off by bluetooth. It does appear to show embedded art work, at least in some situations, otherwise it shows some silly record-animation. The hardware is nice for the price, slightly rubbery plastic (the type that *may* get sticky if you keep it around for years) and it weighs nothing. I like that it uses USB-C, the world should really wave goodbye to the older versions. It has a hardware on/off switch which is also nice, though it will power off if left unattended too long. It actually have a built-in speaker as well as a 3.5mm jack for analogue headphones, which means they did spend money on a DAC/Amp. I personally think they should have skipped that and called it a bluetooth-only player, there cannot have been much in the budget for the analogue path. I'm on the fence about keeping it, the UI is just so terrible and I don't really have time to learn it, even if it turned out it could do what I wanted, but it does basically what I want, so I can probably live with it.
