Funny and clever
A series of pastiches, or pis-taches, that had some real laugh out loud moments. You probably need to have read quite widely to get the full benefit, but even if you haven't, the mockery itself is stand-alone funny. Clever and wry and easy to dip in and out of. I would like to see a pis-tache of Mr Faulks' writing in revenge...

Not what I expected
A little bit disappointed as this was different from other works by Faulks that I had read. However, the stories were still beautifully written.

more gentle smiles than laughter
A series of short pieces of satire - little stories and poems written in the style of famous works of literature and authors, but with incongruity of subject matter. There are reworks of 'If', 'This be the verse', and much else - pretty much all of which made me smile a little. There is Dickens, Woolfe, Hardy, James, and rather wonderfully Dan BrownMaybe not as funny as I expected, though I laughed out loud at James Bond in the supermarket. You need a good working knowledge of english literature to get the joke in most of this, and maybe some of it went over my head a littleIt took me about an hour to read, so good for filling in waiting moments

The Right Stuff
Sebastian Faulks is an engaging writer; my wife regularly comments that she enjoys his stories and learns something as well. Based in Radio 4's "The Write Stuff", a programme I regularly laughed at in the car, this is a collection of these (seemingly) almost off-the-cuff bits of writing in the style of ...Wide readers will obviously enjoy it more as they will recognise and hear the parodies, as well as admiring the skill with which the original style is dissected and reassembled in frankenstein style but walking slightly better and less confused and demanding.Great fun, the right stuff and recommended

Pistache by Sebastian Faulks
I am a big fan of Sebastian Faulks and have read most of his books. Birdsong and Charlotte Grey are masterpieces, and the later novels are also very good. He is a master of language. This book is nothing like the others, though. As the title suggests it is actually somewhere between a piss-take and a pastiche. It is a series of short articles each in the style of a different well-known author about an imaginary and totally ludicrous juxtaposition of people and situations. It is lightweight, but I found it easy reading and very amusing

From radio to page
I've enjoyed most of Sebastian Faulks' novels (4-5*), and I love the radio quiz programme 'The Write Stuff', and always relish his parody pieces. However somehow, for me, they didn't have quite the same impact on the page. I think I missed Sebastain's voice and clever impersonations, and they are so brief to read. It's good to pick up and dip into, but that's all really. Sorry..I debated whether this should have 4 stars, and may do for some, but not for me.
