Can you put a 16oz bottle of water in on of the compartments?

No - slots are big enough for most remote controls. Holds 6 easily.

Would this item accommodate a regular sized spray bottle of cleaner? Like Windex?

NO, a bottle of Windex or something similar would NOT fit in the remote control caddy. None of the comparments are wide enough to accomodate a regular-sized spray bottle.

one for coasters also

You could put them in but only a few and in the taller you would have a hard time getting them out.

Is this a good size? Does it have to be put together?

It is already put together. I think it’s a good size. It holds my kindle in the back, two remotes, and pens and earphones. Any bigger and would take up too much room on the end table. I like it.
