Beautiful artwork and story!
We are in love with this book. We've gotten it from the library so many times that we decided this Christmas to purchase it! Our 4 year old will be so excited.

Not that great a story, but the pictures are gorgeous
This story is all right. It misses all the humor of the original Little Red Riding Hood story, though. The part about 'why, grandmother, what big teeth you have' could totally have been hilarious when applied to a shark. Instead, this story skips all that and just has a shark swimming around trying to kill the cuttlefish. Also, the story does not do a good job of illustrating a cuttlefish's abilities. The factual blurb after the story is more entertaining to read than the story itself. The illustrations are beautiful, however, kudos to the woman who created them.

Brilliantly illustrated!
This is an aquatic retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood tale. Little Red, a cuttlefish, is set to deliver crabcakes to Grandma. Little Red looks forward to sharing krill cakes with her. She makes it there safely and that’s when the tiger shark shows up! The shark sniffs for her as she plays hide and seek. Little Red has to use her natural abilities, her smarts, and gumption to outwit the tiger shark. There’s one page where Red has obviously changed colors (to gold like her mom) but no mention of the cuttlefish’s ability to change color is mentioned in the text. For small children this might be the only confusing part, but it also provides a chance for the reader and the kid to chat about the natural abilities of cuttlefish. This particular ability is mentioned in the Author’s Note at the back of the book, along with other factoids about cuttlefish. I like that info on the tiger shark is also included at the end of the book. The authors also provide links to additional resources on sea life in this section. The whole package is a great little introduction to sea life for small kids.Illustrations: Brilliant colors worthy of a living coral reef are used. I like how the angle changes too throughout the story, sometimes looking side on and sometimes from above, like a scuba diver. The facial expressions on the characters are great, like when the tiger shark bumps his face into the coral. A variety of sea life is illustrated in this book: sea cucumber, shrimp, octopus, tiger shark, and staghorn coral.I received a copy of this book at no cost from the authors in exchange for an honest review.

Very Cute ReTelling
Do you know what a cuttlefish is? I don’t. Or I didn’t before I read Little Red Cuttlefish! A cuttlefish isn’t really a fish at all! But you will learn all about that when you read this book with your child. You can also learn about tiger sharks, oceans, and more sea life with the resources found at the end of this very colorful and entertaining book.Little Red Cuttlefish is a little bit like Little Red Riding Hood in that Little Red is taking a basket of goodies to her grandma. She gets a little distracted along the way, but she makes it to her grandma’s without too much trouble. But when she gets there, the tiger shark wants Little Red and Grandma for snack! Thankfully Little Red uses her smarts and her skills, and she saves the day!You and your child will really enjoy reading all about Little Red’s adventure to Grandma’s house. The illustrations are beautiful and really bring life to the story. I definitely recommend checking out the additional resources and finding out more about cuttlefish and ocean life.

Little Red Cuttlefish
I read a free copy of this book via a Pelican Publishing eGalley in exchange for an honest review.By now, I have read a few books by this wonderful family trio of authors and loved every one of them. As ever, the illustrations are delightful and give such magic to the story. This is a fast-paced tale about Little Red, a Cuttlefish who lives deep in the ocean. One day, while on her way to deliver a basket of yummy crab cakes to her Grandma, a big mean tiger shark chases her, and she has to use all the tricks she has up her tentacles to escape his clutches. This is a delightful tale of bravery, delivered in easy to understand and snappy sentences. With the gorgeous illustrations from the talented hands of Kate Gotfredson, even young non-readers can enjoy looking at its pages over and over again. This book is one to be enjoyed while cuddled up with a grownup doing the reading, or for older youngsters to read to themselves. I give this lovely little book a solid 5 out of 5 stars.

This adorable book offers you a new world with rhymes and ...
Little Red Cuttlefish on the way to her grandmother meets the big and scary tiger shark. The tiger shark is obstinate in his desition to catch the Little Red, but she tries to run away from the shark using all her skilled defenses: camouflaging, squirting the ink and all she knows. This interesting illustrated book will bring you in the famous story told in a different way and different setting that we used to. This adorable book offers you a new world with rhymes and colorful illustrations. The authors include the facts about the cuttlefish and the tiger shark, so that is excellent because the little kids get the information about those sea animals. The illustrations are so delightful and bring life into the story; the kids will have to feel that they are into the deep ocean.Highly recommend this book for little children, they will love this story and want more.

Fun fractured fairy tale!
I love fractured fairy tales and this story of Little Red Cuttlefish is no exception. Little Red Cuttlefish encounters obstacles on her way to deliver crab cakes to her grandmother. Kids will relate to the main character and her adventures in protecting her grandmother. The illustrations enhance the story with an expressive and colorful palette. Peppered with lively language and a few fun puns, this is a great read-aloud. I especially like Grandmother's line: "All this swimming has made me so hungry, she said. "I bet we could wolf down these crab cakes."I recommend this for kids who enjoy fairy tale retellings and ocean stories.
