What is the difference between the "pearl" version and the regular version with the blue barrel?

Is the ink acid-free, archival safe?

Safety and archival are slightly different things. It is likely not archival ink as it is intended for everyday use and archival ink is actually a stain that will clog a tip relatively rapidly so it is not recommended for everyday use. Up to the 1980's archival ink was still used straight from the bottle and with a quill. Today, you can obtain archival ink from craft stores in a pen form but the tip may still require cleaning periodically to ensure even flow of the stain.
