great all-around capture device
This is really a handy nearly-all-in-one capture device, with composite, s-video, and hdmi inputs, all able to capture up to 1080p video. Only missing component video from the array.Of course, this capture shows up to the computer like any usb webcam, so most any software can access the input video as a video stream. This also means no extra drivers to install as it just works, whether linux, Mac, or Windows. It also doesn't seem to have any issue with switches connected up to the inputs either.

Adequate, very little directions.
I wasn't expecting too much from a capture device that only costs $25. This does hook to my Win 10 laptop, and did capture VHS from my old camcorder. However, the quality was not great. Yes, VHS or even Hi8 picture quality was never great compared to todays digital recordings. You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, as they say. So of course you're not going to improve the picture quality with this. I was able to figure out using their sparse directions where to hook what. I'm fairly computer literate, but if you're not, you will be digging around on YouTube trying to find someone to explain the ins and outs of this. It's so unfortunate that so many products from China may be quality products that work fine, but many lack good documentation.

Did what I needed it for!
I bought a Sony Hi-8 camcorder a month before my son was born 32 years ago. It was top of the line back then! I accumulated over 25 2 hours tapes from their childhood. A year ago my kids were home and we decided to watch old tapes for the evening. The camcorder didnt work at all and set out to fix this problem. I found a old camcorder on ebay and bought it for $75.00. I was then able to playback tapes on it but I am afraid of the tapes failing or this camcorder not working later. That is where this cable comes into play! My sole purpose was to record the tapes to my external hard drive on my computer. When I seen the S video jack on this one, i decided to try it. Although I have only done 1 tape so far, it worked and I have my back up if all else fails me! I will continue to play/record them till I eventually get them all copied! I did not find the audio to be so bad when I hooked my laptop to my tv and tried the playback!! The recording also was not far off the original so I am happy with what I got with this cord! I guess for the $100.00 i have invested I could of just sent the tapes to one of those digital companies to be duplicated, but that would of been easy!!! Worth the price for my needs!

Good for the task of copying video to the computer
I used this analog to digital converter to digitize some old VHS tapes to the computer. I didn't use it for streaming, although I suspect it would do a great job for that. I have some arcade games with HDMI outputs that I may try this on a little later. But for the task at hand, copying VHS tapes to the computer, it worked pretty well.I'll mention that I already had a USB device like this, but it was a cheaper one. I had used it a few times, and it was OK, but it had audio issues so I wanted to try something different. So I grabbed this one to give it a shot. The audio quality was great compared to the other device I used. The video quality was acceptable, but I did have one complaint. That was, using Quicktime on mac, there were no places to adjust the input aspect ratio. This was likely a limitation of the software I was using to capture. A different capture software probably would have allowed me to set the input to 4:3 aspect ratio for a better capture. But, I don't think this was a fault of the capture device.Overall, I think this is an excellent choice for converting composite, s-video analog signals, and HDMI signals (without copy protection, that is) to streaming or video capture. For the price, it's hard to beat. I am very pleased with it.
