Quiet, reliable, sturdy
One reviewer highly recommended this pedal, but claimed that this pedal has "rudimentary 'guts'" including bare internal wires. This is not true. This pedal has a printed circuit board and uses conductive carbon pills -- the exact same sort of switch you'll find inside your calculators, remote controls, smartphones, and certain computer keyboards. There are no bare internal wires as the reviewer described.I've owned three of these pedals. They are very reliable; I'm just now replacing the one I purchased in 2019 (six years ago). These are simple to open up (just be cognizant of the pedal spring). I last opened my pedal to modify it to safely absorb the static electricity in my home in the winter, when the air is very dry. The pedal is often the first part of my keyboard that I touch, so any static I've accumulated gets passed into my delicate keyboard. Once, the static charge caused my keyboard to reboot! This was not a fault of the pedal, which was simply allowing the static electricity to follow it's own path. But I soldered an inexpensive MOV (S07K35 Metal oxide varistor, 35VAC) across the cable to protect the keyboard from any future static jolts. I also could have incorporated the MOV into a secondary cable, but it seemed simpler to just place it inside the M-Audio sustain pedal. This pedal is quiet, reliable and sturdy. Highly recommended.

Excellent Quality
The build quality is magnificent! For that price, I’d say it’s very much worth it. I’ve dropped this thing from chest height and the dang thing still works. I’m not a short person so it took quite a tumble and survived with barely even a scratch. It’s not mushy like other cheap pedals are. It has decent activation pressure that feels like a genuine piano peddle. It interfaces perfectly with MiDi Controllers that support sustain peddles, and sound quality is very responsive. I’ve tried it on a few different ones I have and it works great on all of them. Lastly, the cord length is good enough to wrap around the back of my office desk where I keep my Akai Mini, and still has enough room for adjustment.

An excellent quality pedal at a nice price
I like having the adjustment knob which allows me to set the silent point of the travel at the physical stop. The adjustment is a bit sensitive, and slightly difficult to set exactly. Also, there is a tiny bit of free play in the pedal linkage, which makes precision a bit less than I would like. The mechanism, a slotted lever and round pin, is very standard for foot pedals, and I am being overly picky about that. I am comparing this to a Studiologic VP-27, which I have nearly worn out. The VP-27 uses a nylon rack and pinion gear system, which is slightly more precise. Overall, this is a very good expression pedal, which should work well for nearly any expression pedal application using a TRS plug.

Best I've seen/tried for the price.
I've tried a few of these momentary pedals, including Boss FS-5U (switchable), Hosa FSC-502 (normally open/off) and Roland DP-2 (normally closed/on). The Boss is the best, but it's also the most expensive, and doesn't come with a built-in cable. This pedal is designed a little differently than the Boss pedal, but it shares a feature with the Boss pedal that the Hosa and Roland pedals don't: an external switch that allows you to go from "normally open/off" mode to "normally closed/on," so this single pedal will work with pretty much any piece of equipment/feature that requires a momentary pedal. It's quiet; the construction is very heavy duty ... steel bottom and top, with thick rubber non-skid material on both; it comes with a built-in cable, all at about half the cost of the Boss pedal. At this price, nothing else I've tried even comes close. Very pleased.[After reading a few older reviews, I came across one that explained the remarkable cost difference between this pedal and the Boss FS-5U ... the "guts" of this switch are FAR more rudimentary and prone to glitch/failure than the Boss design (M-Audio switch is activated by two bare internal wires being pushed into contact when you press the pedal). The Boss switch relies on a more sophisticated mini-button momentary switch mounted on an internal circuit board, so I still favor the Boss switch in terms of quality/reliability, but this one DID consistently work for my application, right out of the box. Buyers should also note that the manufacturer seems to have responded to older complaints about the rubber pads coming off/loose by changing to pads with little spikes on their bottoms that stick through corresponding holes in the metal case, to hold the pads more permanently/securely in place. So, still a great value, as long as you're aware of its limitations/potential shortcomings, and the more rudimentary design works for your application. My five star rating still stands.]

Solid, Piano-Style Sustain Pedal That Feels Right
Solid, Piano-Style Sustain Pedal That Feels RightI’ve been using the M-Audio SP-2 with my digital piano, and it’s one of those accessories that instantly makes playing feel more authentic. The pedal has a good amount of resistance—not too stiff, not too loose—so it feels close to a real acoustic piano pedal. The rubber base keeps it from sliding around, even on hardwood floors, and the build feels sturdy enough that I expect it to last for years of practice and performance.I also like that it comes with a polarity switch, which means it works with just about any keyboard or digital piano. Plug it in, flip the switch if needed, and you’re good to go. It really is plug-and-play without any fuss.If I had to point out a small thing, it’s that the spring feels slightly lighter than on some higher-end pedals, but it’s consistent and very responsive. For the price point, it’s hard to beat.Bottom line: A reliable, well-built sustain pedal that gives a piano-like feel at a very fair price. Great pick for anyone wanting to add realism to their digital playing setup.
