It has the sense of depicting true batak's art
Batak's art is quite mystery for me. the art it self, seems more about of datu's expression rather than community art. it's an selfish, arrogant, mad expression. I think it was common thing back then, when religion was defined by each village. the book captured many of sculptures dynamic in detail pictures. And its just wow me that such self-imposed isolation tribe could love art and made a lot of it.

A Must-Have Book on Batak Tribal Art
I can not improve upon James Cole's review, which is excellent.I do want to add, though, that this book is magnificent. The authors write in an easy fashion while providing fascinating information from multiple referenced sources. Perhaps more importantly, there are large 4-color photographs on every page (heavy-stock glossy paper). It doesn't get any better than this. If you are interested in Batak tribal art, this book is worth every penny. (You can get it cheaper at the Amazon Marketplace and on eBay.)
