The scent is understated and not noticeable to me unless I'm smelling it still in the container. Don't let the word "paste" put you off of it, it's not sticky or pasty, and when used in the right amount (sparingly and learned with a couple of uses...start with less, you can always add a little more) it's light and not even noticeable in your hair. A not-very-thick layer on my fingertip the diameter of a large pea is how much I use. Spread that little bit evenly on the first three fingers of both hands and spread it around and through my hair, back and forth, side to side, around in circles, however you want to do it. Easy-peasy. This is a very good product, and is very similar to Fix Your Lid Styling Fiber. Both products are about a toss-up as far as how they work, how they look (though the Fix Your Lid may have slightly less shine), and how they look and feel in the container and when applying. A little goes a long way, and even if your hair is a bit longer than my short hair, the 3.4 oz container will last a long time, like months, maybe a year, using it five days a week.
