This SmallRrig HawkLock allows you to put a cold shoe wherever there is a quarter inch British Standard Whitworth tapped hole. It comes in two parts - the half that you screw to the hole and the part with the cold shoe on it.To separate the two halves, you press a button which raises and disengages the locking bars on the underside of it and when you insert it, you press the button again. It is designed so that you can insert the cold shoe unit into either end of the base unit so you can change orientation very quickly and easily.The base unit has the quarter inch BSW screw on it and also a couple of sprung locating pins although they will retract all of the way if you are screwing it into something that doesn't use them.The upper unit with the cold shoe on it has a plastic base to the cold shoe so that if you are putting a flash unit on there that uses a hot shoe, it will not short out.This is a useful little adaptor that adds a cold shoe to a camera cage or a magic clamp if you want to use it for a flash unit or a small lighting unit that uses a cold shoe.

As always, this is excellent quality from Smallrig. It was very easy to fit, and has a smooth action meaning no damage/abrasion to light or camera equipment. It loads from either side but does feel very secure when properly engaged. The screw fitting stayed tight and didn't work it's way loose.

This product was sent to me for review, as part of Amazon Vine. The below is my own real-world experience of using it.I was particularly drawn to it, as I would like to set up a small cage for my GoPro. The screw-thread compatibility allows me to do this.The cold-shoe adapter is a sturdy piece, with a sleek, brushed-metal finish. The two parts separate well, once the button is pushed to release them, though I found them a little stiff to re-connect (something that could improve with extended use, perhaps?).Once attached to the cage, the locking pins hold the adapter in place very securely - it's handy that an allan key is included with it, as I definitely needed it to remove it again!In summary, a good value item that adds versatility to any camera setup.

Another quality bit of kit from Smallrig.Very well made as you would expect from these folk, and really feels sold when its' slid in and latched on.I'm using this for a lighting accessory on a DJI RS4 gimble, and the quality matches that of the gimble itself, so you know it's safe and sound for holding expensive kit.Good stuff, and on a quality/value-for-money basis... 5-Stars.

This is tiny and only add around 2cm to the height of any flash/light hot shoe equipment. It is super secure and a nice click to release mechanism which can be operated with one hand.A small price for a ultra precision made mount.
