Einsatzgebiet ist unser Gartenteich, der mit einer maximalen Ausdehnung von 8x4 Metern durchaus Raum bietet. Alle Zusammenstöße mit Teichrand oder Pflanzkübeln, die vor allem bei dem noch recht ungestümen Fahrstil unseres knapp 2 Jahre alten Juniors an der Tagesordnung sind, hat die Sea Lord bislang unbeschadet weggesteckt und selbst in den Seerosen haben wir uns nie wirklich festgefahren. Ebenso hat das Schiff so manchen (mehr oder minder versehentlichen) Versenkungsversuch unter dem Schlauch der Teichpumpe überstanden, auch wenn bei völlig geflutetem Deck und ordentlich Schlagseite an eine Weiterfahrt meist nicht mehr zu denken war. Wirklich Wasser ins eigentliche Bootsinnere oder gar die Motoren eingedrungen ist uns bislang nicht, obgleich wir auch schon mehr als einmal kieloben schwammen. Selbstredend hatten wir natürlich nach jedem Batterie-Wechsel auch immer alles wieder gut und fest verschraubt. Temporär abgeschrieben hatten wir die Sea Lord vor rund vier Wochen, als unserem Junior die Fernbedienung ins Wasser gefallen ist. Trotz direktem Rettungsversuch war das Teil natürlich Oberkante voll mit Wasser. Sofort auseinander geschraubt, trocken gelegt und geföhnt - leider erstmal ohne Erfolg. Eine Woche haben wir noch alles bei Zimmertemperatur richtig austrocknen lassen, und siehe da – plötzlich reagieren die Motoren wieder auf die Fernbedienung, selbst ohne Batterietausch. Seitdem stechen wir wieder in See. Ungeachtet all dessen, klar wir haben es hier mit einem preiswerten Stück Plastik zu tun, einem Kinderspielzeug mit begrenzter Funkreichweite, einem Objekt, welches aufgrund seines Einsatzgebietes auch sicher gefährdeter in seiner Funktionsfähigkeit ist als ein Holzbaustein. Dem sollte man sich bewusst sein und seine Erwartungen nicht zu hoch schrauben, damit die Enttäuschung im Zweifelsfalle nicht zu groß ist.
