Selected Duets for Saxophone, Vol. 1: Easy to Medium (Rubank Educational Library, No. 194)

Sax Teacher Review
I wouldn't exactly call these "easy" as there are some complex rhythms and runs that may confuse a typical "beginner" (ie one to two years of play) student. It also has some incredibly esoteric meter changes, which, as a professional musician, I never see in real life (ie one song has a 3/4,4/4,2/4 time signature-- two bars of each time signature in sequence). This may be theoretically helpful to the student, but can also frustrate them.A teacher or instructor should be involved to help the student chose the right duets. This would make a great sightreeding book for someone in 7th-10th grade in the US; but my main issue is that I would call this mostly a medium level book, not "easy to medium".The actual writing of the duets, other than the strange ones, is sound. Good classical music theory, interesting counterpoint, all in all good compositions.

A book that progresses from fairly easy to medium easy duets
A book that progresses from fairly easy to medium easy duets. The style for each piece is displayed at the beginning of each exercise (Allegretto, adagio and so on). This helps the student to learn Italian musical terms. The duets are taken from compositions by famous composers, which familiarizes students with different periods of music. Key choices extend up to four flats and four sharps, and time signatures are nicely varied as well. Dynamics are noted in each part and articulations are clearly notes. It would have helped if breath marks were indicated to assist the student in their breathing. I was glad to see that grace notes and trills are included as a training device for solo playing.

Hope Springs Eternal
Great with either tenor or alto. I am lousy at both instruments, so when I get a bit overwhelmed by my lack of ability, this is one of the go to books. I play a little tune and feel better about my picking up the sax at my age!

Excellent book of duets
This is an excellent book of duets for saxophone. I use this in my private instruction and master classes for junior high students. The duets range from Easy to Medium (difficulty increases toward the end of the book) and there is a fair amount of variety in the keys and time signatures. Great price and definitely worth it.

I love this book
I love this book! I have been taking Saxophone lessons for 1 year, and this is at a perfect level for me to sight read, but no so easy as to be boring. It's fun to play duets with my teacher. The songs are arranged well and sound great.

Great ancillary material
This is great ancillary material. My teacher has incorporated it into my lesson regimen. I really enjoy the duets. They are however very much on the classical side of things but much pleasing to the ear.

Pezzi facili ma comunque interessanti
Consigliato dal mio maestro, ho preso questo libro e non sono deluso :)I pezzi sono graduati e sono comunque tutti belli. Mi piace moltissimo un Allegro (il 35) di Kalliwoda.Consigliatissimo!
