Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol Z1 DJ Mixer

I bought this for doing parties/discos and so on and I love it. I have traditional Technics turntables but I wanted something digital, so I could do a set off my laptop and set up playlists for different party requirements. This controller is great in terms of build and sound quality, and gives you enough hands-on control to be able to do a decent 2-deck mix. The Traktor LE software is laid out nicely, and with a few effects/filter options it does everything I need it to do. I am running it on an old Windows 7 laptop, it works perfectly and is really stable when in use.

I've used this now for a good few months and can so far see no reason to give less than a 5 star rating. It's a very good entry level tracktor controller. It appears to be reasonably well built is very well designed and fells good to use. Controls are logical and very responsive as is feedback between the mixer and my iPad Air. The sound quality is professional. I have a fairly good pair of ears and can be critical of audio quality. I've used this to play through a decent sized high quality club system and it sounds superb.

Great set of decks, easy to install and set up. Traktor software crashed on me when I ran the latest MacOS update to Catalina, and I haven't managed to resolve it completely yet, but that's no fault of the Z1 controller.

Nice little item for house parties and works fantastically well with the Traktor DJ app. Combine with an X1 mk2 and a F1 too and you're pretty much not far off what the S4 can do for less money.

Here's my advice.... This is a great entry Into traktor, the mixer is solid and produces great sound. Traktor has come a long way, and I now find myself jumping from my turntables and cdj's into the world of digital software. Instantly I upgraded to the full traktor software and after a few days of technical issues with drivers, and following support forums, it works without hiccups! That being said it lacks transport control, meaning you cannot control the remix decks very well. There are add on's you can buy like the x1 and f1 to achieve this, but honestly, after playing with scratch pro 2, I am not sure how this will feature in my future setup, as the control you have with time codes and scratch pro is unparrellel! Think about what you want your setup to be in the future, and make sure this fits.. I used 2 cdj's with a s2 controller in a bar, and the experience was amazing... This is what I will be moving to next! Good luck and happy djing ;)

If you want a simple and portable way of controlling Traktor this is it. It allows you to control the essential elements of a mix simultaneously and the inbuilt sound card means this is all you need for ultraportable DJing. You can always build on this when your wallet permits by adding an F1 to control remix decks & Stems.

Easy set up plug and play with traktor DJ or Traktor Pro. Product was shipped in original packaging which was damage and scrapped. When I opened the box, the usb to iPad/iPhone cable was not in the box. Not sure if you have to purchase this on its own but seen as the Z1 is aimed at ipad users too it's a shame it's not included in this generation of Z1.

Moved to Toronto without my equipment and needed something to keep recording mixtapes so I gave the Z1 a chance. Gotta say It's one of the best compact controllers in the market! Hardware feels solid, gum knobs feel good, channel faders gives you precision when turning them up and down, high quality output audio, a very compact but powerful controller!

Hardware: iPad 4 with Lightning Connector Software: Traktor DJ (iOS App) 1.2.1.148 Build Notes: + The knobs are all rubberized. They're soft to the touch. + The Line faders have a very nice glide to them. They're not completely loose and offer a bit of resistance. + The crossfader is very loose. I can flick it from one side to the other with a finger. + The buttons make a "click" noise and have the texture of an Akai MPC pad. - The deck plate matches an iPad's bezel, but is very prone to smudging and surface scratches. Do NOT wipe this with a dry cloth. Contents: + AC adapter (with many different plug adapters) + Thick guage USB cable (for computer connections) + Thick guage USB to 30pin Apple cable (for iOS device connections) + Paperwork: card with software and hardware serial numbers + Paperwork: instructions + A sheet of Native Instrument stickers (for cases, laptops, etc) - There's NOTHING in the box for newer Apple device connectivity (Lightning port). You'll need the Apple 30pin to Lighting adapter to make this work. Other notes: + Fully compatible with the Traktor Gig Bag. 0 issues. The Z1 fits inside of it perfectly. Final thoughts: The iPad app is magnificent, but a fingertip isn't great for sliders. The Traktor Z1 gives the user more precision over controls (levels, gains, highs, mids, lows, fx) that require finesse. The form factor is amazing. The app is powerful. This setup is perfect for dj's who don't feel like dragging around equipment for small parties, backyard bbq's, or tailgating.
