So far, I’ve spent about a day or so messing with this. I had intended to make it my daily driver desktop system but I have managed to have very limited success getting a suitable desktop image to even boot. Armbian didn’t boot, neither did Ubuntu or Debian, and I tried several different images for each. Each time it was a different issue. Orange Pi OS (Arch) booted but apparently can’t be installed on the eMMC. In fact, none of the methods others have used work with any of the supposedly supported OS images linked from the official website for the device. Essentially, I haven’t event gotten far enough to evaluate whether or not the 3D hardware is supported, or really, anything for that matter. I strongly recommend that they make it clearer which OS’s are fully supported and which aren’t. What is clear is that it’s nowhere near as easy to use this as a desktop system as it should be. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it.

So far my only issue(s) are software related. For new boards that's a given. That and I'm not really sure what I'm doing. Lol. But that's the fun, right...

TLDR: Stop working, got a replacement quickly. It stopped working after a little over a month and I have no idea why. All the ports stopped and it was over the 30 day return period...So, I contacted baseus customer support and they sent me a replacement after I explained the issue.

I am a network engineer and use the OP5 as the primary server for my office network and lab running Armbian Linux. The 16GB of RAM is more than sufficient to support the services I run on it (PiHole DNS, Samba file sharing, and SyncThing for file synchronization between it and my Windows, Android, and Linux clients). I routinely transfer multi-gigabyte files to and from the server and I've been very impressed with it's performance and reliability and as a result have recommended it to multiple colleagues who have also purchased it for the same general use case. Before putting it into production I tested network performance using iPerf3 and the server maxed out the 2.5g Ethernet interfaces. It is an amazing little machine.

I have 3 other OrangePI SBCs and have been happy with their performance. This unit died within 24 hours of first boot. I was able to get a refund, so I didn't loose any money on it. Just the time it took to return it.
