I'd been using my lounge carpet and a mechanised returner. Not too bad but my carpet is too fast so my speed estimates were wrong. This mat is definitely slower and claims to be a 10 or 11 stimp which should match most public courses. But what I like about this is that the ball almost always does come back within easy reach. Only if you're woefully short will you have to walk to get the ball.As a result it's actually enjoyable to use. I can spend half an hour putting while watching TV and that much practice has to have a positive effect. I will say that the surface isn't rolling very true (seems to have a tony bit of break) but that could be my lounge floor. It's not a big deal because mostly this aid is about distance control. If you have to aim a bit right it doesn't matter much.
