Well, my old smoke detector died, and my wife ordered this one. It looks good. Ten year battery life is a bit amazing to me. It was easy to install (I think. My wife actually did it while I was away, and that's what she says) It self-tests as working fine. I am quite pleased with this product.

I installed these in a rental remodel. Changing batteries is always a hassle. Especially in the dark while it's chirping! These claim a 10 year battery. I'll update this review and rate the battery then, we'll see. Kidding aside, while working in the dining room, an associate was doing something that created a small amount of smoke. The smoke alarm on the other side of the header in the hallway immediately sounded. It was loud and clear and even produced the required 3 on, 3 off, 2 seconds, repeat correct signal as required by CA fire code. After letting it ring out for about a minute, I pushed the reset button and it rearmed itself. Fit and finish is very nice. Easily installed on any surface. Be sure to follow the directions on where in the room to place these. They will save your life as well as other's. There are areas in a room where they should NOT be placed. I have and will buy again. Even if the batteries don't last the full 10 years!

Pretty straightforward installation if you have a drill, still took a bit of time. Very sensitive - it would go off basically every time my father-in-law cooked so I tried to take it off the wall in the kitchen (it was about five feet away from the stove). Accidentally dropped it in the cat's water bowl which was all she wrote, the death knell was wretched. Ended up having to smash it and rip the wires out of it to get it to stop because the screwdriver notch to turn it off would not turn. Having said all that, it's incredibly loud! It will definitely go off and save your life if there's a fire! So in the grand scheme of things, it does what it's supposed to. Just maybe put it a little further away from your stove than five feet, especially if you have any family members who smoke up the kitchen on a regular basis.

I was told that these alarms were the best to get. I did not know when I ordered that the alarms I had were disabled probably because they kept chirping. So I was glad I bought this. It won't work until you put the back on and I had a hard time doing it. But I got it finally, tested it, and it works. It will work for 10 years which is a long time. It does not fit on my old wall fixture so I just set it on a table. I will take it with me if I move. It is supposed to be the most sensitive alarm. It is bright green and looks nice. I like that it has a button to disable the alarm. It only chirps when the battery runs out. Over all, it is a worry free alarm.

This is our second order of these. The first ones did indeed last 10 years! The ones originally in our home were hardwired in but had a backup battery. What a disaster! They kept alarming even after new batteries were installed--and (of course) always in the middle of the night! These are great! Highly recommend them. No changing batteries; no false alarms going off in the middle of the night; and you don't even have to think about them for ten whole years!! When they do start to beep at the end of the 10 years, you can push the button to silence them which gives you time to order new ones.

I have used Kidde smoke detectors for years and have never had a problem with any of them. This new one has a built-in battery, and I'm not sure if I like this better than replacing them myself when needed. It will certainly be more convenient, and I won't have to worry about them chirping while I'm gone on vacation. I guess time will tell.

The alarm works well and easy to install. I would buy it again. I like the long battery life.
