This starts simple and gently progresses from easy chords to actual tunes with song examples. So you get some sense of achievement! It concentrates on frets where the strings are not too close. That is important for beginners. The video lessons are OK but to go further require subscription. YouTube has many free lessons. So, I never got disheartened and felt I was progressing. That is important for beginners.

A very accessible and easy-to-follow learning resource for all budding acoustic guitarists. This book is clearly structured into manageable chapters, covering all the content you need, and enabling you to progress at a speed that’s right for you. Packed full of helpful tips and illustrations, Pauric Mather has produced a gem of a book here, which is sure to make your journey towards guitar hero status an enjoyable one. By following it section by section, I find I’ve made progress every time I pick up my guitar. I can not recommend it highly enough.

Not as much information I thought there may be for a beginner

Starting by telling the reader how not to play guitar, the author draws the learner into his approach through illustrations. I've adjusted the way I position the instrument, grip and strum and feel that I'm beginning to play with less tension and effort than before. It's unconventional - for instance we're not taught all the open chords (ones with an unfretted string), however I can see the direction clearly. I'd really recommend this approach to adults like me, who have not made a great progress with the instrument. It will re-invigorate you!

How to Play Acoustic Guitar is a great book to get you started , I like the simplicity of the material covered which allows you to start playing right away. No fluff, less is sometimes more. The book provides a framework of skills/techniques which build on themselves when learning chords & strumming patterns laying the foundation for success (playing music), progressively working towards perfection. Crawl, Walk, Run. What impressed me the most and why I took the time to write this review was getting to the back of the book on pg. 129 meet the author, Live webinar -video every Wednesday for free. I'm a skeptic by nature but figured I'd check it out, realizing I needed some additional support. Jump on the webinar and met Pauric Mather author of the book, conversation started with discussing some of my goals as a beginner and then covered a few technique issues I was struggling with. Applied Paurics feedback to my next practice sessions and all I can say is this was a tremendous help! I 've purchased Pauric's other books based on this experience, 100 Guitar Chords & Barre Chords on Guitar. Still learning but having fun, just remember, you get out if it what you put into it!

Great for beginners & easy to follow

Easy going method for learning guitar.

I didn’t know it was so easy to teach yourself the guitar and this book makes it SO easy! Very clear! Pauric knows exactly what mistakes common beginners make and addresses them ahead of time. Easy to understand photos, lessons are simple and buildable. I love the QR codes with videos that explain in even more. Love it! I would recommend it to anyone who wants to play the guitar!
