Understanding Pathological Demand Avoidance Syndrome in Children: A Guide for Parents, Teachers and Other Professionals (JKP Essentials)

PDA - worth researching - and maybe England has some insight we Americans are missing!
Pathological Demand Avoidance is a familiar diagnosis in England, but most psychologists from the US still haven't heard of it, or would rather use 5 other labels to try and capture the same phenomenon. For some of you parents who have tried for years to find parenting resources that makes sense and fit your child, this might be what you're looking for. A group of researchers in England have identified some consistent themes in kids who are often referred to them as being "autistic-like" or "reminds me of autism, but not quite..." These kids need a different approach because they have found that they need the OPPOSITE of what usually works for typical autism spectrum kids. There is so much I could say about the research they have done. If you are sick of having a million labels stuck on your kid, see if this one describes it all in one fell swoop.

A very helpful and easy-to-understand book on PDA!
This is the information I have been waiting to hear that finally describes my child. This book is well written, very easy for parents to understand, gives great advice in an educational setting. This has been so helpful in understanding the needs of my son, and gives good insight and techniques in how to work with him and parent him according to his needs.

Great book to understand this condition that is usually labeled ...
Great book to understand this condition that is usually labeled bratty kid syndrome in the USA. If you suspect something isn't right but your child is more social than you've been led to believe a kid with autism would be, and more verbal, then read this book. We need to raise awareness of this issue.

If your child has PDA read this
It was recommended to us to read by another parent to help us get a better understanding of how this affects our son. I was amazed reading it that it described my son to a T. My husband initially found it too much like a text book but after I said I hadn’t he persevered and found it much easier to follow . We have recommended it to the school and other professionals in our sons life to read to better understand him.It helps you understand. I recommend it

A must read for parents concerned about PDA
This is an excellent book to develop an understanding of PDA. As a parent of a child who ‘appears’ to identify with the majority of aspects, I’ve been desperate to find out more and find ways to communicate and survive.

Amazing
Amazing read we did not know that PDA actually existed and the people that have had the input deal with this situation every day and it does make you wonder whether your child is getting the right diagnosis at all as the strategies are total different to what you would be dealing with with autism.
