Excellent fans for smaller windows.
I have smaller windows in my bedrooms and couldn't find a decent window fan that could fit them. These fans fit PERFECTLY. They do the normal fan functions, like pulling in air from outside, our exhausting air from inside to out. 3 speeds for both. Sounds is good, not too loud (I have one right next to my bed and it isn't a distraction). The are easy to install, just put them in and go. Come with a few differentsoze window spacers if needed. Built well solid value. I wish they came with a remote of some kind, but not a deal breaker. .

This fan is excellent
Solid airflow and exactly what I needed. My massage room at the office doesn’t get much ventilation, and it was getting too hot and stuffy to work comfortably. When we built the wall, we left a large gap at the top to allow airflow rather than spending $10,000 on a full ventilation system. With this fan in place, that setup works perfectly. I mounted it using double-sided Gorilla tape, and it hasn’t budged. Its also doesnt make too much noise.

Expensive, but works well
I bought Vornado PORTAL Window Fan with 3 Speeds for $69.99 on November 5, 2024. This is an extremely expensive and relatively weak fan, but is a much sleeker device than a traditional window fan. Basically this device is mostly form over function. There are fans that are half the price that will give you much more air flow than this. But it does look nice, and it does (somewhat) seal itself shut when the fan is not on. It is also quiet compared to my other window fans that cost less than half of this. Installation was easy, but they do insist that this can only be used in horizontal position. No issue for me, but just something to be aware of. So it is worth the price I paid? Well, I am content with it. It was pricey, but I got exactly what I wanted. It may not be a Dyson, but is still a cool product.

Super happy with the Portal
The Vornado Portal fan is a great window fan. It is quiet on low and medium. It has some noise on high. I like the ability to have a low profile fan in my window at night. It came with various sizes of foam blocks to make up the difference it window width. That was nice. I also like the manual controls. I have added a security device so the window can’t be opened with the fan removed. It is a little expensive but not as expensive as the Transom - I have both and find the electronic controls unnecessary and not worth the price. I didn’t find the Portal until after purchasing two Transom fans. As to clicking mentioned in other reviews; my fans have had no issues after 3 months of near continuous use. (I have mine mounted vertically so yes they can be used that way. As to it affecting the longevity, I know I’m taking a chance and accept the consequences - YMMV)

A OK fan in a TERRIBLY designed enclosure.
The good: The fan itself, consider the smaller size, provides decent airflow. Not great, not good, but OK airflow - for the slim size. The neutral: It fits OK into a newer window with no trim or sill (like your average cheap vinyl replacement window). The fan is reversible. The bad: Where to start? This product is such a disappointment - a collection of good ideas ruined by Vornado cheaping out resulting in poor execution, poor fit, and a worse seal than your average $30 (junky) window fan. The biggest issue is the fit of the unit itself - it requires a newer window with tight clearances for a secure fit. It does not fit securely into older windows, any sash windows I tried, or into any of the windows having interior sills/trim that fit against a closed sash (common on older windows, wooden sash windows, etc). Any degree of height or padding adjustment under the unit could have resolved this issue - it is simply cheap/poor design on Vornados part, especially considering the higher price-point. The foam blocks included do little to seal the window and can easily be shifted or pushed out. Bugs and mosquitoes can freely come and go around these blocks and through the unit itself as it has no grill or mesh on the exterior to prevent this. Window fans are rarely the best option, but this Vornado fits so poorly that I can honestly recommend just opening your window or propping a cheap box fan on the sill instead… it will move more air and you’ll deal with same number of bugs and poor seal as you would with this unit. The seal and fit of this unit is unacceptably bad for this price point - try a cheaper fan instead.

Really cool design but mixed performance.
Huge fan of how these look and the build quality is really nice, but performance is mixed. As an intake it works perfectly and is almost silent on low/med and high is consistent with a normal fan while moving a good amount of air. As an exhaust it seems to stall the fan out at the slightest outside air movement, which causes the fan motor to lug and it sounds pretty rough. I do not use it as an exhaust for this reason because I don’t want to ruin it and it is loud. I would like to see a thermostat on these like the cheapy window fans and I can’t imagine it would be too hard to make the diverter tighter so it could block airflow when off eliminating the need to remove the fan from the window when running central air during warm days. I want to like this brand, they make some intresting products (some even in America, apparently) but my first fan purchased locally didn’t work and this one doesn’t fill the roll of the $35 dual window fan it replaced.

Great window fan!
Works great! Definitely recommend if you smoke. Exhausts great and blows really strong if you need to get some fresh air in the room

Decent little fan, giving us more window room to look out.
Bought this to suck the cigarette smoke out of the room. So, only used as an exhaust fan, not to pull air in. Fits nice in the window, using the included padded spacer things. We had just the tiniest space to fill in. Since we are rednecks, we used paper towels pushed in the gap, but you really can't tell, TBH. Decent suction, but we only use it on high. No louder than any other fan we have used. And we have had quite a few over the years. Most of them are the style that has two big round fans. But we don't mind the "white noise" that a fan provides. It drowns out outside noises a little, like the neighbor's barking dog. If you get strong wind coming out of the direction that the fan faces, it will definitely blow in, so we occasionally have to take it out of the window if we get strong south winds (in our case). In the winter it's twofold. One, you don't want that really cold wind blowing in and two, it really bogs down the fan motor, which can't be good on the fan motor. In the warmer months, we only take it out if it is really bogging down the motor. We decided to try this style, since it is lower profile than the other fans we have used in the past, as referenced earlier in my review.
