Polished sound and looks
The old-school boxy PC speakers I use on my backup server are dedicated to system sounds. The 6 VDC AC adapter draws 20 milliamps static current 24/7 and in my project to eliminate vampire wall warts, this had to go. Newer mini designs use the same drivers (some with passive bass radiators) as found in those awesome portable Bluetooth speakers. Power is provided by the computer's USB port, eliminating the wall wart and that fits right in with my strategy. Not that I needed quality audio, I found these KLIP Xtreme Mini II speakers at this rock bottom price point and figured, "Why not?" These are really good looking speakers. Component and build quality and fit and finish are top notch. The goodly sized passive radiators, one on each speaker, do a good job delivering bass and the front facing drivers are crisp, clean and loud. I played several genres of music from my backups and the sound did not disappoint. However, the cabling is on the short side and the volume wheel is tiny and tactually limited and without the visual indication provided by a knob or a larger numbered or marked wheel. Normally I would ding one star for that, but not at this price point. So, five stars. As dedicated speakers for AUX-out jack audio devices, the KLIPs will fill a room with satisfying sound. You'll need a 5 volt USB "charger" for power, 500 milliamps minimum.
