No, the pi is a 32 bit system and the 64 is 64 bit. The emulation is choppy at best

Would this be good for my 10-year-old to learn coding?

I would say no to be honest. I do not think that this specific it is good for anyone to start learning how to code computer software. The reason I say that is because this is a very specific kit. The SD card comes preloaded with raspian and retropie already flashed on to it. This specific kid is specifically meant to be an emulation station which just softens to be the name of the software that comes with it as well. I would recommend buying a standard raspberry pi b 3+ If you want to teach or learn coding and buying all the components that go along with the project that you want to use this with.

Will the controllers work with USB 2.0 extension cables?

As far as I know it will work with any USB. I wired my ps4 controller to it.
