A Grand Tour of the Dakota Apartments: A Journey Through Time of the Interior & Exterior of New York's Legendary Landmark

I was hoping for some colored photographs. A few do exist (such as the interior of Lauren Bacall's glorious home overlooking Central Park), and it would have been nice to see some of these included in the book. There are some black and white photos, meh--colored photographs "take you there" and frankly, what I really want out of a book like this is "be there" for a little while. But the history of the building is very well-written.

Obviously the author(s) love the Dakota, and it's a great topic. However, this text doesn't provide a worthwhile study of the building and its history. It's a bit like a scrap book that has been only slightly organized. The author's gushing comments and the copied texts of newspaper articles are marred by typos. The photographs are poorly reproduced - some too dark to decipher - and look like they came off an old copy machine.For the $25 price I expect a more professional product than this large, homemade paperback.

Like a pile of xeroxed xeroxes. I loved the photos you can make out... Lots of repeated pics throughout. I do, however, think this is the best that can be done with what is available photograph-wise of this building. And unlike other books it has a lot of interior shots which is worth it if you love the Dakota and want to peak inside.

Great book on the building and the builders. Just what I wanted. A brief smattering on the celebrities that lived there, which was more than enough for me.

Great fun and so interesting. If you have ever wondered about The Dakota or how New York was built this is the book.
