Follow world famous structural engineer Steve Burrows, as he and the Time Scanners team travel to Egypt to scan the pyramids, the tombs of the mighty pharaohs. To find out how these buildings evolved from simple mud-brick structures to some of the most impressive buildings in the world, Steve and the team use groundbreaking laser technology to scan the structures and reveal secrets previously unknown.

Fantastic
Very, very fascinating. Kept me glued to the screen. Wish that Time Scanners had gone on to other sites! Did watch the one on the Western Wall as well as the church in England.

Join the time scanners as they scan the Egyptian Pyramids to reveal secrets hitherto unknown
XXXXX“This time the time scanners are heading to Egypt to discover how the most famous structures in the ancient world were built: the pyramids. The team is using [new] technology to uncover secrets thousands of years old. They will see how the skills of the ancient pyramid builders evolved radically in only a century. The team is going to peel back the skin of these iconic structures using this new technology to make discoveries that will change the way archaeologists think about the pyramids. It’s time to dig deep into the ancient mysteries of the pyramids.”The above comes from the beginning of this very interesting documentary. It features a presenter (Dallas Campbell), a world-renowned structural engineer (Steve Burrows) and his laser scanning team (from the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies at the University of Arkansas). The pyramids are really the tombs of powerful pharaohs.Initially, the Egyptians were building their tombs with simple mud bricks. But after only a hundred years they were building magnificent pyramids with the Great Pyramid at Giza being the ultimate in ancient engineering. So the main question this documentary attempts to answer is:How did the ancient engineers arrive at the Great Pyramid within just a century? To tackle this main question, the time scanners secret weapon (besides Steve Burrows) is revealed to us: the Mobile Laser Scanner.Burrows with the aid of this device examines three pyramids built earlier than the Great Pyramid. (The time from building the first pyramid to building the last one was a century.) Then he and his team examine the Great Pyramid itself, the oldest and only surviving member of the seven wonders of the ancient world and the pinnacle of pyramid design. It is from all these analyses that the main question posed above is thoroughly and unequivocally answered. This and other results discovered by the time scanners even surprise the experts. Finally, as you can imagine, the graphics in the film are just incredible. We are also privy to a wealth of historical knowledge that is provided by the Egyptologists that are brought in to aid the investigation. In conclusion, this documentary allows us to see the pyramids in a way they have never been seen before!!(2014; 52 min excluding end credits; wide screen; English subtitles; PBS)<<Stephen PLETKO, London, Ontario, Canada>>XXXXX
