As a chess player, I had high expectations for the GoChess Mini, and I must say it doesn’t disappoint. The compact design is impressive, providing a fully functional smart board without sacrificing quality or precision.One of the standout features is the seamless connection with the GoChess app. The LED lights are a subtle but powerful addition, making it easy to follow moves, explore openings, and enhance gameplay. Although I was initially concerned about the smaller size compared to traditional tournament boards, the GoChess Mini proved to be practical and highly portable—perfect for analysis sessions or travel games.The app’s integration with online platforms and Lichess allows playing against strong opponents worldwide, including AI simulations at different levels.The option to save and study games is something I hope they’ll expand further—having a way to import or export PGNs directly to the board would be ideal for advanced study. But overall, it’s clear that this product was designed with both beginners and experienced players in mind, making it a great tool for sharpening chess skills.Update a few months later: My kids took a few chess lessons at our local library and are now using the board to play (with AI hints). I challenged them to figure out why the AI is advising them to make a move and before they pick up a piece, where they think the AI will want them to move it to. It's been a great learning tool for them. Still very happy with my purchase!

This is my second GoChess chess set; I also have the GoChess Lite Modern, the Mini’s big brother. I own almost all of the chess boards out there and this one is my favorite. From the moment I opened the set I was impressed with the styling, weight and feel of the pieces as well as the very thin usb-c chargeable board. The board has sensors in it to detect pieces and movement as well as LEDs which allow it to provide different levels of hints and blunders by lighting up these LEDs in different colors. There are other sets with hint systems but this is the only board that lights up the board in green on the white or black side denoting which sides turn it is. This is very handy when playing online like on chess.com because sometimes you can lose track of whose turn it is. It is also the only board with a hint system that tells you not only which space is the best space to move when you lift up a piece but it also can tell you which piece is the best piece to move. This is totally unique to all of the chess boards being sold. From playing against the many levels of the built-in AI to playing bots and real people from around the world on chess.com and lichess you will have more fun playing chess than you ever have before. It’s a great learning tool as well and will boost your ELO to new heights if that’s what you want to do or just play casually and make new friends from around the world.No hi tech chess board is worth the money if there is a lack of customer service to back it up. I have interacted with the customer service several times and they have been nothing short of friendly and responsive answering all of my questions and getting any issues Inhave found fixed. For instance, I found a bug with the IOS version of the all (they also have an android version) and within days it was fixed and a new version was posted in the App Store. The customer service is AMAZING !

Very well made chess board, it’s a mini, but does not feel mini, perfect size board. Pieces look and feel really good. I have not played chess in long while, but on level 1 , I won fairly easy, was just checking it out for my first game with it. So will try different levels. Lighting system looks really cool, looking forward to playing on line with a real person. Highly recommend.

This is a nice quality chess set. It has good integration with chess.com. I had issues with getting lichess to work.The AI mode is good.For me this was expensive and will allow it to evolve a bit more.

First off, let me say I had no clue how to play chess, so I bought this to learn — and I’m so glad I did! The GoChess board came beautifully packaged, and I really appreciated how carefully everything was packed. Each chess piece was individually protected, and the board itself was well-secured.Setup was an absolute breeze. Connecting it to the app was quick, easy, and totally seamless. I’ve already played a few games against the AI, and I’ve actually learned quite a bit just from experimenting and playing around on it the last two days.I’m also very happy with the size. I chose the Mini instead of the regular board, and it’s the perfect fit — not too big, not too small. It feels just right.I’m looking forward to diving deeper into learning strategy and technique, and this board will definitely be an amazing tool to help me grow. I also love that I can play solo against the AI, and eventually play with other people online or in person once I know what I’m doing.Highly recommend — especially if you’re a beginner like me!

I just spent my whole weekend playing chess! This board game is not only beautiful (the board and each and every piece is high-quality) but also offers a variety of playing options. You can just use it as you would for any other board, but you can also install an app and either play against an AI, or online. It's easy to setup and use, guaranteeing hours of fun and play. The board itself is of a perfect size - not too small, nor too big, making it perfect to take with you when you travel. Definitely worth every penny spent for it!

I spent 30 minutes trying to get it to pair with my phone with no success. I've never had this problem before. The app is junk. I tried via the Bluetooth screen and the board would reject it. I couldn't sign into chess.com because I use my Google account and it couldn't authenticate it because it was seeing it as a separate device somehow. The biggest pile of crap I've ever bought.After an hour, I got it to work. The board won't register the pieces unless you overly exaggerate moving them. Even then you will spend a 3rd of your time trying to get them to register. Chess.com account will not work with the gochess app if you use Google log in. It's doens have enough security to allow it. Do no buy

Very good AI board! You can have cheats for one person who is not such a good player against a good player and have an even competition. I really like that it lights up to whoever’s turn it is. It makes for a smoother game. My sons game has really improved!

I couldn’t be happier! I’m 73 and I’ve always wanted to learn to play chess, but I was always too busy or thought it would be too difficult. So when I saw this GoChess Mini advertised, I couldn’t resist because the board’s built-in computer will take me from Lvl 1 to Lvl 32 estimated from ELO 400 to ELO 3,000! 😀The product was beautifully packaged and extremely well made with each piece giving a pleasant, tactile sensation. 💜I only touched it for the first time two days ago, but each time I play I increase the “AI Strength”. It’s not only informative, it’s fun as it gives me various movement options. 😀

Je suis triste de ne pas voir les pièces bouger toute seule comme sur la vidéo du kickstarter. Je ne sais pas si c'est moi qui ait mal compris le fonctionnement ou si la fonctionnalité n'est pas disponible pour le moment ou si elle ne le sera jamais. J'avais beaucoup d'espoir de voir cette fonctionnalité sur mon GoChess. J'ai acheté ce jeu pour que mes enfants apprennent et que cela évite les dispute et la triche entre eux. Je suis content pour cela car le jeu est vraiment top sur la partie technique l'IA et les lumières sont top. Autre problème c'est le plateau de jeu qui n'est pas de niveau, je dois mettre le quick start guide en dessous pour que le plateau ne bouge pas, dommage. Autre point négatif c'est l'obligation d'avoir un téléphone allumé à côté pour jouer. J'ai dédié un vieux téléphone au GoChess pour que les enfants jouent sans avoir besoin d'utiliser mon téléphone personnel. J'ai écrit à Particula concernant la fonctionnalité des pièces qui bougent toute seule en espérant que ce soit moi qui n'ait pas compris comment cela fonctionne.
