All the parts feel as though they are built to last a long time.My only niggle would be that I would have preferred a longer power cable - however the cable provided is sufficient and can be used with an appropriate extension lead.In use you push the button away from you to start and release to stop. Ignition time of cardboard is seconds and for charcoal/wood is longer but once started it really does start a good fire. It provides 2 of the things needed when starting fires - heat and oxygen. Because of the nature of the tool it does need a little care in use but once you learn to use it properly it is a much safer way to start a fire that will last (and no chance that you will have to fan the flames any other way).At a price of £38.95 this is a great addition to any garden BBQ'er or firebug. I love mine and have used it several times now.

It is what you expect it to be, a heat gun in a wand form. It uses a 'dead-man' switch, so only on when you are actively holding it on. Has a built in stand which held it sturdily when I put it down. Now I used it in winter, and used it for deicing my freezer - do not copy me in using it for this, I'm an idiot who made an educated guess that I could do it without blowing myself up. It would EASILY work very well on lighting bbq coals and wood fires etc. I was particularly impressed with heat dissipation, of the wand itself. I had assumed that the heat shield around the wand would be dangerously hot after use - do not touch it, it IS hot, but it is not at the level that i would say in unreasonable.

This electric fire starter is something I never knew existed but which makes life easier! It’s soo convenient to not have to buy fire starting fluid/blocks and adding unnecessary chemicals to the coal. This fire starter is reliable and gets the job done with minimal fuss. It will be a frequent summer BBQ accessory from now on. The only drawback is that I wish the cable was longer, however using an extension can easily fix this flaw. Therefore I am overall pleased with it.

The below is my own real-world experience of using it.I was particularly drawn to it, because I use both a fire pit and a galvanised bin, and as such it can be a struggle to light these with a traditional lighter - the Powerflame seemed like a much better solution.The device itself appears to have been well-made; its construction is robust, with a sleek finish. The handle is also nice and long, ensuring that you keep your hands well away from the hot end. I did feel that the attached cable was on the short side, which might limit use for those who don't have an outdoor socket (you could possibly use an extension lead, though it would be worth researching this, first).Other than that, it has a very impressive performance - I found that it heated up completely within a few seconds of holding down the switch. Hopefully, that will be more than suitable for my needs.In summary, a good value item.
