I'm a 33" waist and the medium fits perfectly around the waist and snuggly around my bum, crotch and top of legs. The elasticated waist allows for plenty of expansion after eating a large meal, for example, so no issue there.The problem comes from the fact that the rest of trousers’ poly-cotton, very lightweight material doesn't stretch at all so when you put stuff in the pockets - and being cargo shorts it has 5 of them - then the shorts become tight, rub on your skin and restrict movement.Also, as other reviewers have mentioned - the distance between the top of the shorts and the bottom of the crotch seems overly large, so unless you keep the waist band up by your belly button, the non-stretch material restricts your movement of your legs, especially walking up inclines or stairs.Amazing price, they look good (after removing all the dangling threads) but are spoiled by the cheap, non-stretch poly-cotton fabric and odd cut.

Ordered 2xl for a 38" waist, the fit is fine with a little room left.There are belt loops but only for a 1" belt.The material is comfy but thin so I'm not sure how long they will last.The crotch is a bit low so in a work situation where you are climbing up and down ladders maybe an issue.The cargo pockets are a bit small and won't hold my fone which is 6 1/2 inches in its case.There is one zipped cargo pocket the others are velcro.The front pockets are big and will fit my fone in them with little to no chance of falling out whilst walking about , the 1 back pocket isn't that deep and sealed with velcro.The length of the shorts on me is 2" below the knee and there not to baggy.
