Trackballs are better than mices!
Always amusing watching someone try to use my computer and sliding my trackball around the desk in confusion. Well, they shouldn't be using my computer!I bought this to replace a Chinese one I had for around... 4 years? It had a good run but eventually the buttons started to go and I looked to replace it. I'd have happily bought the same model again but it was out of stock so I settled on this one which was a good price and looked alright. Glad I did - can't fault it. It's comfortable, the surface has a nice, dry feel to it. Hard to describe it better than that but it's not tacky, hard plastic, more of a natural feel. It's more than accurate with the DPI switch in the middle (you wont activate this accidentally if you're wondering). I don't use the Forward / Backward buttons much mainly through lack of habit - I forget they're there and do everything manually. But they're convenient and I'm trying to train myself to use them because aside from their use in a browser they have automatically mapped in Windows to cycling back and forth through tabs in my terminal windows and other applications. And it's VERY nice to be able to do that at a button click once I've trained out the motor-reflex.I started with trackballs with Logitech long ago but stopped using them when my old wired trackball broke and they no longer made wired trackballs (at least thumb-operated, hand-resting ones like this) in favour of Bluetooth only. I loathe Bluetooth mice and trackballs. They're okay while you're using them but they go to sleep when you're not - they have to save battery life - meaning whenever I've been typing for a few minutes and go to use the trackball or mouse there's this annoying little lag of around half a second where the cursor doesn't respond. Then you have to mentally readjust to make the same motion again. Annoys me every time and all for the supposed advantage of it being wireless - because yes, I need to be able to juggle with my mouse while I'm using it! *smh*.I'm rambling - this is a great device, feels robust and comfortable to rest your hand on. I have no reservations recommending it and if in another five years time I'm buying again, it's likely to be another of these if they don't change it and mess their designs up like Logitech did.

Great mouse that works perfectly, wherever you need to use it
I treated myself to a gaming laptop as my 10 year old gaming PC just wasn't cutting it anymore. Having used a gaming mouse for those ten years I just couldn't get used to the track pad on the laptop. As my other half told me to move my desk out to the shed I am now relegated to gaming on the couch. Obviously a normal mouse wouldn't suit my needs so i decided to go for this rollerball mouse. and I'm very glad I did. It takes a bit of getting used to, lost count of the amount of times I tried to move the mouse instead of using the roller ball. Now i have been using it for a couple of days I'm very happy with it. I bought the Bluetooth version which cost me £35, the good thing is you don't need a dongle, so you're not using up a usb slot, which is great because laptops don't come with many. I put the batteries in, turned it on, held the button until my laptop detected it, and that was it. Easy peasy. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't have a lot of space. Good well built bit of kit.

Solid, fluid, might not suit smaller hands.
Over the years I have used a variety of pointer devices, but I have returned to using a trackball for my main computer after a number of years lay-off as the RSI was threatening to re-appear again. The (wired) trackball is solid and larger than a normal mouse. You won't want to be travelling with this regularly, or putting it on a small surface. It doesn't go anywhere if accidentally knocked. The buttons seems solid and positive (although see the scroll wheel section below). The device plugged in without issues or additional software requried on a Windows 10 laptop. The surface is comfortable and supports a relaxed open hand. For my average man sized hands the primary buttons and the roller ball are in a good position.I'm less sure about the smaller forward/back buttons just in front of the ball. I'm not in the habit of using these on mice normally, but the ones on the trackball seem awkwardly positioned. Too far to the left of the primary button makes it a vaguely uncomfortable stretch for the back button with my index finger, and I have to actively move my hand position to hit the forward button. My thumb is too short to use them. The ball s heavy but spins freely and still I get a childish sense of fun spinning it sideways with the ball of my thumb to send the pointer right across the screen. I did notice that after a number of months it got gritty and slowed down, but popping the ball out (there is a hole underneath which fits a pencil or end of a little finger to aid this) and cleaning it, and particularly the sensors, of hand gank sorted this out. I now pop the ball out weekly for a clean out of fluff, if nothing else it gives a similar satisfaction similar to popping bubble wrap.I use the central scroll wheel quite heavily. It has a bumpy, indexed, flow, like most scroll wheels. The scroll is a rubber tyre on a metal wheel and after about 6 months this started to slip. As I felt this was probably in warranty I contacted perrix (initially through Amazon, but then passed through to their website). After filling in a simple form with the details of the problem they quickly organised a replacement direct from Amazon. I suspect that when I get round to taking apart the old mouse a careful application of glue will fix the slipping tyre problem. I haven't seen other reviews with this problem so it may just be an occasional QC issue.Perrix did ask me to write a review at the end of the replacement process. It was not contingent on it nor was I promised anything else, it has taken me a number of weeks to get round to it and the new trackball has been in use all that time. However, as the replacement process was good, and I like the product, I have honoured the request. It is not a perfect device. Leaving aside the scroll wheel it's a generally positive experience, but the auxially buttons are a bit far apart, and those with smaller hands would find them more problematic. The primary buttons are large and would cope with shorter fingers, but you would might have to use more of your thumb tip (rather than ball, or pad) on the ball with smaller hands. For those with average sized hands I don't think you can wrong at this price and it compares favourably with my big name brand from a number of years ago.

Ergonomic rollerball computer mouse
I liked that the computer mouse had dimensions, as I have small hands, so I could choose whether it would suit me. I like that it's wired so I don't have to keep buying batteries. It came super quickly, the next day after ordering, which is fantastic, as I needed it to relieve my wrist's painful repetitive strain injury. I sit at a computer for most of the day. Took it into work and so far, I'm very pleased with it. It's well made and feels solid. Would recommend this product.

Brilliant
Glad I went with the option with a scroll wheel, saves moving around to get to the next record in the list. Found my wrist ached at first because of the different angle, also found the right click button was sometimes pressed inadvertently. However after a short while I became used to the operation of the mouse and now I wouldn't be without it.. Didn't fill in the Gaming bit as I don't play games.

Best by option for roller track ball mouses
This connected quickly and seamlessly. I have had no issues or glitches. The battery life is excellent. I am replacing all my mice with one of these

Works well (less than 1 week usage) - no serious complaints
I was looking to replace my Logitech M570 - it has lasted many years although this long stint involved a lot of frustration with automatic double clicking, sticky left click and finally the left click dying all together. The successor seems to have the same issues so I was looking into reviews of alternatives and that left me with a feeling that its going to be a total shot in the dark to replace the M570. Anyway, after a lot of review perusal, I picked the Perixx. This review is after about a few days of regular usage. The real test is longevity so a longer term review will follow when I get there. So far, my experience has been very good to excellent.- The mouse connected to its receiver without any issues - everything was plug-and-play - no software or anything installed.- My setup is an HTPC - so my receiver is about 10 feet from where the mouse is. The mouse sits either on a sofa cushion or a sofa arm. Neither surface is a hard surface. I experience very occasional stuttering but usual experience is pretty smooth.- The trackball is smooth to the touch - fits snugly - but moves smoothly. I don't feel like I need to put excessive force to move the trackball. I have so far not had to clean it or the sensors. It doesn't fall over if I tip the mouse.- I can get reasonably accurate with the mouse - I am not doing anything that requires super precision. I am able to select text, press buttons, menus without any annoyance.- It feels larger than the MX 570 - more horizontal space. All five fingers have grooves and rest comfortably. The mouse overall feels comfortable - no complaints. The whole surface has a rubberized matte texture to it - feels nice to the touch. The ball is maroon - the overall look is good.- The mouse wheel is a little clicky when it scrolls - that's fine too. What is mildly annoying is that the mouse wheel click is hard and moves the mouse on the screen because of the force it needs. But there aren't too many reasons for me to use this button so it doesn't really matter much.- At this point (less than 1 week in), I didn't feel the need for any "break in" of the mouse, and the left and right mouse buttons click accurately.- There are 2 additional buttons which do browser back/forward. I have not configured or used these much.- The mouse goes to "sleep" if idle for a few minutes and moving the trackball does not wake it. Its a little annoying that I have to click a button. I don't think the button click registers so its not terrible. There might be a setting somewhere to change this behaviour but it hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about it.All in all, very satisfied with the mouse and a worthy replacement to the MX570 so far.

So impressed I bought the wireless Perixx 717 too - looking for alternative to faulty M570
I picked up this wired version of the trackball mouse as I look for alternatives to the Logitech M570. I am very impressed. So impressed by this Perixx 517 trackball mouse that I also got the wireless version, Perixx 717 for my main setup. It works just a well. Feels like the same mouse, but wireless.I am so tired of replacing the M570 due to faulty left mouse button after a year and a half. I will update this review if the same button issue crops up. However, because of how well it works, and being so much cheaper than the M570/M575, I would still get the Perixx mouse over the Logitech.(Note: as the 517 & 717 are listed on Amazon together, I cannot write separate reviews. I will highlight any differences in the review, but they are basically the same mouse)Critical: (Positive to follow)The only downside I found is the trackball is a little more stiff to roll. I was initially worried about more thumb fatigue, but this has not been the case. If anything, this subtle resistance makes it a little easier to control the curser, especially on high DPI.The Wireless 717 also uses two AAA batteries. Maybe not a negative per say, but I suspect they will not last as long as the Logitech M570. Have not needed to recharge them yet.Positive:I do like the two DPI buttons. I used to turn my mouse speed way up in windows for the M570. I like the mouse curser to travel far without much trackball rolling. I was able to turn windows mouse speed down and use the faster DPI setting for normal use, and press the slower DPI button for finer mouse actions. This is a really nice feature over the Logitech offering.I like the finish of this Perixx 517 trackball mouse too. It is more like a soft rubber texture compared to the M570 plastic. I think this is what contributes to the slight resistance I mentioned about. The size of the mouse is perfect. I do have larger hands. Very comfortable mouse. My new standard for trackball mouse comfort.I read a review criticizing the middle mouse button, and when I tried to test for that, it was not a problem for me. The button is perhaps not exactly centered with the wheel but it is centered for the click motion down towards the desk. This seems to be intentional and well engineered for better ergonomics of the mouse. I did not notice an issue with my initial test for this problem. My natural middle button press triggered the click. Only after clicking a few times did I notice what that review may have been talking about. All the buttons have a nice responsive click to them. One review commented about the Perixx 717 going into sleep and needing to click a button to wake it. I did notice that. I tend to use the scroll wheel to wake it up. I use my mouse a lot more, and often at the same time as my keyboard, so this is not as much of a problem for me.Over all I am very impressed. Time will tell if the same Logitech button problems crop up. But I will update if it does.
