Duolingo is great because it keeps you engaged but it really doesn't teach you anything. I did know a little bit of Japanese from a class I took in college but once I got past the basics in Duolingo, I was lost with the use of the particles and grammar. This book is perfect to fill in those gaps. Duolingo is great for vocabulary but when you start getting deeper into sentence structures and conjugation, it doesn't help. This book is laid out well and is easy to read and understand. Now the grammar rules make sense and my understanding is increasing exponentially.
