Rubbermaid Servin Saver Cake Keeper

This cake keeper is made of sturdy, smooth plastic. I got it to replace my old one (not Rubbermaid) that took a leap off the top of the refrigerator and broke apart. It keeps my layer cakes fresh for days and will accommodate several layers, frosted and decorated. It is not so much a "cake carrier" as it is a "cake keeper", not having handles. It is, however, exactly what I needed, as I don't really want to share my cake with others, but keep it in the family. (LOL) The lid fits tightly on the base, keeping out air, but is easily removed for serving.

This is nothing fancy — but it's a good big size, perfectly sturdy (very much like any other rubbermaid product), works perfectly for the purpose. Zero complaints for the price. The snap feels very secure but it's still easy to take off the lid without jostling the cake too much. One thing I worry about for the long term — there's a rim along the bottom edge that keeps the bottom from touching the table. I'm concerned that over that it will sag from the weight of large cakes. That's probably the culprit of the heat distortion mentioned in other reviews.

What can I say - it's a great cake keeper, easy to clean, easy to store, and easy to use. I read some reviews that say it doesn't seal properly, but that has not been my experience - it snaps into place without issue every time it's been used. If you're not paying attention it can be easy to flip the base upside down, in which case the top will not stop into place - so just make sure your base is rightside up before you put your cake in and you shouldn't have any issues!

This is a nice size cake holder. It can hold multiple layer cakes and other baked goods. I like that it is versatile as you can flip it over and use as a big container for watermelon, salad, or just about anything that you need a big container for. I did knock one star as I feel the top doesn’t tightly fit with the base. It’s closed but not as tight as I would like. Overall happy with this product.

This product works great for me. It's pretty large, which of course means it takes up a little more room in the fridge, but I think that's worth it for the cases where you have a big cake. This holder is different from other holders in that it does not lock at the base and doesn't have a handle on top. This is no way affects its ability to keep the cake fresh. I actually prefer not having the handle on top, as I think holding anything from its lid is just asking for disaster when it breaks or you forget to lock it all the way. This design is simple and has no parts that will break or become unreliable. The top snaps on and off easily and reliably, and it's very easy to clean. If you require a handle on top like other holders look elsewhere, but consider whether that's a feature that you really want anyways. Consensus: It's a no-frills piece of tupperware that holds cake, and it does it well. Here's a closing hot-tip straight from the mind of Ina Garten: Before you ice the cake line the edges of the base with some parchment paper, that way any stray icing can be easily removed with the paper when you're done and you'll leave the presentation looking nice and neat.

I read other reviews and can only think the people have the base upsidedown. The lid seals securely, I can lift from the cover only and it doesn't open. There is no smell. It arrived clean and in great condition. I ordered with fingers crossed and it is exactly what I was looking for. That being said, I got this as a cake *keeper*, not transporter. I can see that the plate would slide around, but I doubt the top would pop off if the base was supported by hand when carrying.

I needed a cake keeper for a birthday cake I was making for my grandson's birthday -- an 8" round layer cake. I had a similar cake keeper years ago. While some reviews for this product said it did not provide an airtight seal, other review were very positive. I felt I could get it to fasten properly. I can usually get things to work. The cake keeper did provide good storage for the cake especially in our refrigerator over the Thanksgiving weekend. The cover does not stay snapped tightly onto the base. After the holiday weekend and before storing, I carefully worked at applying even pressure to fit cover onto rim on base. It would be seated well but then in less than 30 seconds come unsealed from the rim. It didn't seem to slide around but it was not tightly fitted to the base. This cake keeper is a reasonable price. There were similar products that were much more expensive. I will only be using the cake keeper infrequently. From Rubbermaid I expected a better fitting cover.

I am very happy with my new cake container. It's big enough to hold the large cakes I make and/or we buy sometimes. To my surprise, there's also a ridge around the base that the lid holds onto so it doesn't come off. That's a really good design feature.

Lid does not fit tightly, very dissappointed as I bought it to store a cake in freezer. I've bought Rubbermaid brand before, the pantry storage containers are great. The cake keeper seems to be a very different, poor quality product.

The size was perfect even for high cakes!
