Artificial Intelligence with Common Lisp: Fundamentals of Symbolic and Numeric Processing

This book is great to begin the study of fundamental elements of AI directly in the best suited language to program AI - LISP. To so many it may seem outdated, but think twice and make no mistake about the power of LISP. If you are somebody who needs to proceed building an intelligent platform, this book is the best starting point in making sure you have the basics. By saying "basics" doesn't mean this book is trivial, as it refers to a very advanced area of Computer Science.

Didn't think this book was particularly useful in any way. The treatment of the AI parts are very generic so better to stick with the standard AI and machine learning texts for that. The application of CL to AI is also fairly sparse and basic. The Appendix C, interestingly, contains a "Simple Neural Net Program Implemented in Pascal". Of what use is that I wonder. This leads me to believe that this book is mainly a recycling job.

I read a significant portion of the book, but haven't read it in full. Maybe it's because I could never dedicate myself to properly learning the Lisp dialects. Or maybe the book was a bit hard to follow in the evenings when you are winding down (I read it in addition to my professional commitments). I think I would give it another try. Maybe I will when I find the time.

I needed to learn LISP to use a scripting language derived from this. Found the book a good tutorial into the language, as well as giving insight into the ideas behind it. Also has good chapters developing the artificial intelligence ideas. LISP can also be used with some small modifications in the Scheme programming language.

E' un libro che affronta, in maniera semplice, le basi del "machine learning" alla base dell'AI. La prima parte del libro (i primi 3capitoli) introducono il linguaggio di programmazione LISP con difficoltà cresente. Il resto del libro mostra tecniche di programmazione per l'AI come la ricerca ed il "pattern matching".
