10/10 recommend, we and our cats love it
We should have gotten one sooner. Our cats (2x two year old males) love this litter box. We got lucky and had zero transition time from old school litter box to the robot. Within 5 minutes of setting it up our cats were using it and ignoring the old litter box. Set up was super easy and quick. There was a QR code in the instructions that went to a video if you needed more visual than the pictures. I do recommend the litter mat (or a litter mat) to set in front it does get dusted as cats go in and out (or maybe it’s just an us issue because our cats love it so much they play in it *eye roll*). Setting up the app was also very easy. It does have trouble tracking which cat is using it, but our cats are virtually the exact same weight so I don’t blame the machine for this and not something I’m super concerned about. We have it set to 5 minutes after cat uses to start cleaning (lowest recommended time to allow clumping) to keep our dogs from eating Kitty Rocha. Has really helped on this front. The smell is very minimal. You can tell when a cat has just done business during the “clump time” and when it has rotated to drop and the “excrement compartment” is exposed to the environment. These are both a very minimal time period and the rest of the time you can’t smell it. Huge win. Really easy to change out full bags. The app even tells you when it’s full. Very efficient in its litter usage, I don’t notice a lot of over flow of loose litter (except once but I realized I over filled it so that was a me error not the machine). It is also very easy to wipe down the machine itself. Our animals love it, and it has made our life so much easier. I highly recommend it. My parents also got one for their 4 cats about a month before us (we have had ours for 2 months) and only one of their cats hates it (but he’s a scardy cat for everything). We don’t find it very loud and our cats even enjoy watching it clean itself. My parents got a step for it as it is a little high (approximate 12-18”) but my cats like that challenge. I have notice the safety features work as shown. My cats get curious and want to watch it rotate to clean and sometimes touch the machine. It stops immediately and waits a while to start again. So I have had zero concerns about my cats being around it. All in all 10/10 recommend. I did a lot of research prior to purchasing about different brands and styles and really happy we went with this one. It had everything we were looking for and was highly recommended on reviews from other sites. You won’t regret it! *not a paid review and received nothing from this brand, we just love this product.

Quiet, odor control, and an excellent app for peace of mind. The best!
I have been on a journey to find the best automatic litter box for our situation. I have to keep the litter box in my living space so I really wanted something that had excellent odor control. I also wanted something that would be whisper quiet and have the capacity to except do not disturb times. I did a ton of research and everything pointed to this litter box. At first we had some issue with the right kind of litter or so I thought, but it does now seem to be working just fine with our old bentonite clay litter that we used to use in our previous litter box. Beyond that initial issue, it has been a dream. It is so quiet and it does such a good job of odor control for my two cats who use it constantly. How do I know they use it constantly? Because the app that goes along with it actually tracks everything for me. Once I entered in my cat's information and the setup process, it now weighs them every time they use it and keeps track of how long they're in there. It's so great for keeping up on their health. The only little minor issue I had with it is that they are still on the younger side and they weigh pretty much the exact same. So sometimes the litter box has difficulty distinguishing one cat from the other. However, I know that will change as their weights diverge as they get older. It does a great job of cleaning up and it is excellent at conserving litter. It just scoops out the clumps and levels out the rest each time it's Auto cleans. I also was able to connect it to Amazon Alexa. There was initially a little bit of a difficulty getting My account to link with the skill, but it seems to be working great now. Overall I am so pleased with this litter box and my cat seem to love it as well. They had no issues with being afraid because it's just not loud. Loud. Also because it's an open top. Couldn't be happier and I will be recommending this to everyone I know looking for an automatic litter box.

- Do not buy this product!
If you are looking to buy this product, don’t. I would like apologize in advance for the long review, however I believe it is worth a read. I purchased this product in July 2024 for around $500. It is selling today for $380. That should tell you a lot right there but I would like to share my terrible experience with this product and Nekasa’s customer support. I have had nothing but problems with this machine since it was purchased just under 2 years ago. ( I’ve only been able to effectively use it as intended for about a year and a half because every time I have to contact customer support support I end up emailing back and forth for months online end before anything gets resolved if it ever does.) 1. My first issue came into play shortly after purchasing. The entire assembly is made of cheap plastic and is. It designed well. It is pieces out together with seams. The rubber litter tray is not secured tightly to the box, and if your cat pees on the side of the bin area, the urine will leak through the seams and down into the base of the machine. The machine after just under 2 years of use smells horrendous. After contacting the support email about this issue their solution was to send me the flimsy silicone stickers that they sell because they know their product is not quality and is not assembled in the best way possible. 2. As a result of the problem listed above and the waste disposal method of this machine, there will be litter that accumulates in the door area causing the door to grind terribly, get stuck, and even become misaligned. I have had to deep clean this machine once a week to keep it functional due to this issue. If the doors become misaligned, you have to disassemble the entire base to clean it and reassemble it again. This requires you to have and extra long necked screw driver to be able to reach down into the holes where the tiny screws are located, unscrew about 20 screws (Hope you don’t lose some), deal with a smell worse than a dive bar’s men’s urinal when the AC is out, and try to clean all the loose litter and urine out of the sensitive electronics and all the nooks and crannies this machine has. Oh, and better try and put it all back together exactly as it came apart because if you don’t, you won’t know until it’s fully reassembled ( there’s no other way to test it). If you don’t, you get to play with the tiny screws and the smell again. 3. The litter issue above will cause the door gear to break. That is also made out of cheap plastic. The teeth have broken on me twice and I have had to replace this gear twice. The inside of the base is nothing but exposed electrical panels and loose wires. The only water proofing is the small amounts of silicone around the wire connections. Not great considering urine leaks through the whole machine. You will have to break the waterproofing the replace the gear motor assembly without breaking the other wires near by or the electrical panel. I even found some unconnected wires in my box when opening it up to clean or replace parts. 4. I most recently had the panic span my phone and email with a weight sensor error. When trying to reset the weight sensor it tells me I need to update the firmware, but I can’t update the firmware without clearing the weight sensor error. Had to reach out to support again, and their solution was to pick it up off the floor for 5 seconds, set it back down and drag it back and forth across the floor. As you guessed, this did nothing. They told me that the machine was out of warranty and that I would need to pay $250 for a new base. (This would bring the total spent on Theo box to $750- should’ve bought a litter robot for that price). After arguing with them for a month, they finally agreed to send me a new base for free ( the least the could do after so many issues from the start). I opening the new base today to find that they sent me a USED base. They didn’t clean it thoroughly and there is still dirty litter and litter dust all of their machine. It is cracked, covered in scratched, and missing legs. Redistributing used parts of a product that handle animal feces is abhorrent. This could lead to the transfer of diseases and bacteria. This should not be allowed. Needless to say, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. You will waste your time, money, and sanity. Customer support wants nothing but your money, and does not take care of their customers. One of the worst experiences I have ever had as a consumer. I hope this review and pictures saves others from going through this experience.

Love it!
Love this litter box, auto clean & app on my phone! We do have a 7 and 18 year-old cat. It took a few days to acclimate them from a regular cheap litter box, but it was not as bad as I had expected. You do have to clean out the dump tray at the bottom every few days and add new litter. Be sure to check those before leaving for a few days. I forgot once. There is not any smell unless you don’t empty the bottom dump tray. I have only had to clean out all of the litter once in 3 months! Love the ease of the bottom dump tray because it’s cleaner litter for our cats, and it’s not as heavy as dumping an entire litter box like we did before. You use less litter so the price for box is high, but I use at least 50% less kitty litter. It works great for two cats. There is less litter mess overall. We did buy a step up because of our older cat. I love the convenience of being able to leave for a few days & not have to worry about a mess when I return home. Our part Maine coon cat weighs 25 lbs and she is good with the litter box size but I’m sure how a bigger cat than that would do.

Overall pretty good, but a few problems
I've been debating picking up a robot litter box for a while, and have mostly been looking at the Litter Robot 4, but when this was on a pretty sizable sale and I had a $200 gift card it felt good enough to give a shot. It's smaller than I was worried about it being, but still bigger than I thought it might be. I had to do a hard swap from my cat's old litter box to this, but luckily she took to it pretty much right away. It does it's job pretty well and was easy to setup and easy to use. There are a few issues, most are minor but a couple are kind of big. - The open top does result in a lot of litter ending up on the floor around it. I keep the litter box in the laundry room so it's not a huge problem, but if your cat the type to throw litter around when burying their business it will likely get out of the box. - The waste tray reports as full far earlier than it really is. It also dumps a surprising amount of litter into the waste tray sometimes but not always. It's also easier than I'd like to spill out of the waste tray when trying to clean it up. The biggest problem is that while I was able to get this working with Home Assistant using a HACS plugin really easily, but I have to really rely on that. The app on my phone does not stay signed in. It'll log me out within a couple minutes of signing in, and whenever I need to do something in the app I need to do it quick. The app layout. options, etc. are all pretty good, it's just the cloud service does not stay signed in. It does still send me notifications though? I also couldn't access the store front for accessories/consumables, but a recent app update removed that as an option. The store front threw SSL expiration popup errors, and when I get signed out it says the session expired. I suspect the app's cloud services have expired SSL certs or something and that's caused both problems. That they haven't fixed it is... kind of crazy. Beyond all that, it works mostly as expected, the cat uses it, and I don't have to worry about forgetting to clean out the litter box, I've got stuff that notifies me on the phone to clean out the waste bin when needed. Solid buy, but could be better.

Love it....but don't believe that you can go 14 days without emptying it....
I've had this for a little over two weeks and am sharing to help others if they are debating on purchasing this. First, I love this. I researched these for a bit and choices were somewhat limited as my cats prefer an open top box and there aren't many on the market. I finally settled on this one and am very glad I did. Set up was extremely easy, the app is very user-friendly. I wasn't sure how the box would work with multiple cats (I have two) but it works very well. You set up your cats in the app and it can tell who has been in the box based on the weight you enter for each cat. One of my cats adapted quickly and was not an issue. The other cat, who is the one I actually purchased this for as she prefers a very clean litter box or she will pee on the bathroom rug, has only jumped in it once at this point. She's very skittish naturally and although she is very curious about it she has just started going in a different litter box. I do get alerts that she is peeking in though as the box alerts me that a cat weighing very little has been in the box. She really hasn't been in, it's her peeking in and triggering a sensor, but she looks in a few times a day so I imagine she will get in when she's ready. I love that the app is so customizable and I can get alerts, reminders, etc. The box itself is very simple to use and does a great job cleaning. You can customize how and when you want to clean, either automatically after a cat has visited or manually when you choose. It also has a do not disturb feature which is great; I don't have it clean during the night. It's not loud when it cleans, except for a thud whenever what has been deposited in the box is dropped into the bin. Despite the claims, however, it did smell to me after a few days. I cannot imagine how bad it would smell after two weeks of not emptying the bin. It is in our master bathroom and I was smelling it in the bedroom to the point I thought the one cat was now going somewhere in the bedroom in protest. My routine is to empty it daily and I never smell anything now. I do not use the bags that come with and later need to be purchased. I take a plastic grocery bag, flatten it out and place at the very edge of the bin each day. It works well enough that I can just grab the sides and pull up and everything falls into the middle. I may use the bags when I empty all the litter (which is also very easy to do) but will not use it to clean normal everyday activity. Overall, I highly recommend this box....but do not believe that you can go 14 days without emptying the bin or you will be living in a stink cloud. Two days max....

Good concept that doesn’t overcome poor engineering.
I went with the Neakasa M1 because I like the open litterbox design and it was on sale and substantially cheaper than other high-end models. I think, like most people, I purchased an automatic litter box because the daily scooping of standard ones becomes draining after a while. My goals were simple: scoop less, smell less, clean less all while being safe for the cat. It accomplishes some of those things very well: scooping is no longer a thing, and there safety mechanisms on this prevent kitty from being hurt despite my two cats trying their best to off themselves by jumping in from the back mid-clean. It pauses with even minor sensitivity on it, and the safety features are working as expected. What it does okay: smell less. While all of the kitty turd nuggets are stored in a garbage bag within a bin, it’s not completely air tight. It smells especially bad when it’s going through the cleaning cycle. So, while it’s an improvement over a standard open litter box, it still smells more than you’d want. Definitely not suitable to put in a common area where you spend a lot of time. Now for the bad… while you’ll do less scooping, the design of the box does nothing to prevent litter from being kicked out. It includes a mat that is supposed to help catch this, but it’s nowhere near adequate enough. I end up with basically a sandbox on the floor multiple times a day and it takes more time and frustration dealing with this than it did scooping litter out of a normal litter box with larger pine pellets (which can’t be used with the Neakasa M1). There’s third-party made add-ones that you can buy to address this, but they’re expensive and end up making the cost around the same as the high-end enclosed litter boxes. And my cats weren’t even that big of diggers before, but with the shallower amount of litter, combined with needing standard clumping litter over larger pine, it’s turned my cats into little digging machines. It’s been two months now and they have not changed their behavior. So, if you’re thinking “oh maybe this won’t apply to my cats they barely do that now”, learn from my mistake and don’t think your cats are different. Outside of that, a few other negatives: - If you’re thinking purchase from Amazon, or anywhere else but Neakasa directly, they don’t honor their 30-day trial return. - The app and sensors it utilizes is pretty mediocre. It does a poor job of accurately weighing your cat, so if your cats aren’t more than a half-pound difference in weight, it will often incorrectly report which cat used the litter box. Due to that, in this scenario you can’t really use that data to determine if one of your cats has a new health issue if they suddenly start using it more. - The push notifications are pretty bad and don’t work well. I’ve tried on both iOS and Android. You only really get a push notification if there’s a problem like the litter bin being full, but this is often inaccurate and I’ve pulled out the tray to find it barely even filled (along with a nice whiff of the poo winds since it doesn’t seal the bag in the tray). - I’m relatively tech savvy and the litter problem I so bad I even considered automating my robot vacuum to go clean any time the Neakasa is used and cycled but, as of April 2025, there’s no integrations available with Home automation platforms, no open REST api, and no webhook capabilities for this that you could use as a trigger. Overall, it’s just an okay product, but if I could go back I would purchase one of the other higher-end automatic litter boxes that are fully enclosed. This will probably end up in the basement eventually so I don’t have to deal with the morning delight of litter covered feet when I get my morning coffee. If an upgraded version of this is released, I highly encourage Neakasa to consider addressing these flaws in their engineering designs. A deeper litter box and/or edges around the rim where the cat can still step into an open litter box, but not have the space to kick litter out of it, should be priority number one. Fixing the weight sensors, mobile app improvements, an air tight seal on the wastebin, and integrations with home automation platforms should also be high on the list.

Definitely the best I've ever used.
I have had 2 litter robot's in the past and both of them stopped working shortly after their warranty expired. This unit appears to be of much higher quality, time will tell as far as the longevity of the unit but it does look like a quality item. My cat definitely prefers the open top design of this litter box instead of the tiny Mercury 7 space pod of the litter robot. This design also features the ability to hold much more litter than other units so the need to refill the litter comes much less often. The waste bin is very large. I have one cat and did not have to empty the bin for 11 days. My cat is only 7 lbs so that could be a contributing factor here. However with other designs I was emptying them every 4 to 5 days. Also the unit will send you an e-mail the moment it detects a full waste bin. It takes special bags for the waste bin that fit very well and in my opinion having to buy special bags is only a small negative when you consider the other features of this litter box. Setup was very easy. The app works well and allows you to change all features without touching any of the buttons on the unit. I think the only physical button I have had to press was the bluetooth link button one time during setup. Everything else I could do via the app. The app keeps track of your cat's weight as well as how often they use the box and the average amount of time they spend in there. Which is a great feature for spotting abnormalities or changes in their habits that could indicate a health problem. I only have one cat but it says that it is capable of tracking as many cats as you add to the app by identifying them via their particular weight. Overall I am extremely happy with the purchase of this litter box, and so is my cat. 8 months ownership update: This litter box is still working perfectly. No mechanical defects or broken parts. Had to do a firmware update through the app and it was a little confusing but I managed to get through it. My only criticism would be that since the waste drawer has a flat bottom the waste tends to pile up at the back of the drawer. I chose to put some risers under the feet to angle it forward slightly. Because the way the waste drawer mounts I recommend using 1 inch feet at the front and 2 inch feet at the rear. This gives enough clearance that the drawer can be removed and installed without any bending or lifting involved. Overall totally satisfied with this cat box and would recommend it to any cat owner.
