Matchbooks essentially have matches made of cardboard as a trade off to get a very thin and pocketable product. Lighting them is simply a matter of technique, I have never bent any. The only trouble I have had with these is that some of the heads "melted" and would not light after being carried in my pocket next to my leg while I was working on a warm day. The heads started soaking into the card backing. I'm not sure if this was caused by the heat or from the moisture or a combination of the two.
