I assumed a decent collection of canning jars and lids from a relative who is retiring from home canning. I've made a couple things now, and finally decided I could use some helpful accessories as long as they weren't expensive. This set is good for some basic items - I find the jar tongs, wide funnel, and the tamper particularly useful.I can't seem to get the hang of using the lid lifter and tightener, but I've burned my fingers so many times from everything else it's a wonder I can feel anything at all, so maybe that's why it's just easier for me to put the lids on by hand, lol. Probably very useful for most people though.The only thing I am not quite sure of is the funnel - it is a thick plastic, but it is plastic nonetheless. I am not sure if pickled mixes or other hot or smelly things might stick onto the funnel after awhile, as I find plastic tends to pick up food smells really easily. However, this is a relatively inexpensive canning set, so it is easy enough to buy a metal funnel if this one doesn't last.Overall, I am quite satisfied. Fast shipping with prime options are an added bonus.
