Ombre Est Lumière (Volume Unique)

Making that follow up is not always easy, but IAM have pulled it off nicely. 1993, and IAM are back, with another member, Freeman. They have split from their old sound, and have a new and fresh reflection on music. Ombre Est Lumiere (darkness is light) has a distinct sound which set IAM apart from all other French groups, with their raw sound and sincere vocals about real life. AKH showing his more sensitive side (une femme seule), and the instrumentals are very unique (cosmos).This album doesn't have a dull moment, "Le Feu" has this exciting sort of feeling, "Cosmos" has some nice skills, AKH staying on point, but "Le Denier Empereur" is one of the funkiest - with all the rappers getting a turn, and DJ Kheops showing his new skills.The album has a lot of messages, like "Contrat De Conscience", talking about drug dealers, and "Sachet Blanc", which concerns itself more on the drug makers, saying that they're ultimately worse than the dealers. Another message is "Reste Underground", a look at how rap has become so commercial in France, and how some rappers are best staying underground.My favourites are "Une Femme Seule", a story of AKH's mother - how she had to struggle to get through the day; "le feu" for it's lyrics, and cool Arabic sound; "J'aurrai Pu Croire", again for it's great lyrics and "Je Danse Le Mia" for it's dancy feel good factor, something that wasn't too pop and common in rap.Altogether this is amazing, different to "... De La Planete Mars", but still just as good. The lyrics are more developed, and the music is cool. Akhenaton and Freeman work well together, and DJ Kheops shows he's got skill. Shame I got this and not Ombre Est Lumiere 1 and 2, but I got the tripple pack of IAM, which is still a good deal. You should really consider this if you like tracks like "Le Saga" and "Red, Black and Yellow" and of course "Je danse le mia".
