No where near 1000 grit. It's 100? But great stone for money.
No way this stone is anywhere near 1000 grit. Maybe 100? 150? 200? Its a base stone for shaping. But I could use a rough stone right now so using it no problem. It's actually a great stone, very aggressive, fine sharp grit but soft and breaks as away to mud. Great control and even scratch pattern. Fine soft scratch pattern, no gouging deep. It's like a chu nugura. For a cheap stone, it's great. Will get more. It's thin tho, so won't last long.

Aggressive fast cutting stone but not a 1k, more like 320 grit.
Quick cutting stone that doesn't load up and has a very high content of aluminum oxide to binder ratio so the stone cuts fast. However this stone is no where close to a 1k grit stone, it's FAR more aggressive that 1000 grit, more like a 320 grit stone, the scratch pattern it leaves is very close to what my shapton glass 320HR leaves. So if you need a cheap and aggressive fast cutting stone to do light reprofiling and minor damage correction this is a great value. The binder isn't super hard so it releases abrasive pretty quickly and as a result wull wear pretty quickly but for 5 bucks it's great. It will work well for your needs of removing steel but is by no means a finish stone unless you want a very aggressive/toothy edge. For 5 bucks it's so good I ordered two more as it's nice to have low cost stones that are capable of removing steel pretty quickly but without causing deep gouges in the scratch pattern and that's exactly what this stone does. It will wear pretty quickly so expect to need to flatten if fairly regularly if your using it to do reprofiling or sharpening out chips etc. It's a very friable stone and that's why it cuts so fast as it releases abrasive very quickly and highly friable stones wear pretty quick it's just the nature of the beast. For 5.xx dollars it's an incredibly good lower grit aggressive stone just don't believe for a second that it's any where near 1k grit. The stone doesn't load up very badly but because it's so poreus and friable it does need water added really quickly. Soak it for about 15 mins ahead of time and then when sharpening you will need to spray water on it quite often, if you don't spray more water on it enough that will cause it to load up. So in a but shell, great fast cutting and aggressive lower mid grit stone for 5 bucks but no where near 1k but rather in the 320-400 grit range.

easy to use for work knives
A good sharping stone for work knives. both sides are rough, so don't expect to get a clean finish- it sharpens nicely, but not as well as a two sided whetstone- the type with a finer stone on one side. but good for what it does

Pleasantly Shocked
I have this old dog Nail clipper for my German shepherd dogs that has been used for over 20 years. Because they don't make clippers like they used to, it was difficult to part with it even though the blades were dull. Taking a chance on this stone (as the cost was an incredible bargain), the result was astonishing: The nail clipper is now as sharp as the day I bought it 20 years ago! My dogs are happy too because it now only takes less than 90 seconds to cut all 18 nails. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
