Dream Big: Engineering Our World - 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray [4K UHD]

This is meant to give students / kids a look at what engineering can do for the planet
At a time when we all need to work together to improve the quality of life for everyone on the planet, this movie speaks to the imagination of our youth to think about ways to make positive and beneficial changes. Engineering is not easy, and we need students to know this going in so that they start preparing earlier through their education, life experiences, and the opening of their eyes and minds to all the "engineering" that surrounds them.By showing them that not all areas have the same resources, and that creativity and perseverance is required, and in many cases, creating something out of nothing, this movie provides that imagination and determination.I recommend this movie for kids of all ages. Be sure to ask the kids afterwards about where they have been that radical engineering has been implemented.A great place to talk about engineering and physics is actually the amusement park, water park, trains, cities. Engineering is everywhere.

Disappointed by the Subject and Content
I am a very discerning Bluray buyer, and only purchase titles that are available in Bluray. I originally purchased this title because the home-video release included 4K and 3D discs--a must-have for me. However, this review is NOT for the 4K or 3D format release, JUST for the Bluray release. Overall, I was disappointed by the subject matter and overall length of this documentary. Although this film is about 45 minutes long (the typical runtime of IMAX documentaries), I found myself wishing it was even shorter. The film failed to capture my attention, and was certainly boring in many places. It attempted to deliver excitement by showing the human drama of engineering, but instead jumped from topic to topic too quickly for me to get personally invested. The constant switches from first-person to third-person narration frustrated me, especially as the sound level between the two were different (I had to keep changing the volume). Also, many of the live-action shots were clearly staged, showing the same two people fake-talking and smiling instead of actually doing their real engineering jobs. I was also let down by the bonus features on the disc. Although there are several special features, almost all of them simply used clips from the movie with voice-over. There was no behind-the-scenes featurette, and I didn't even see the need for one, as the film was clearly made by amateurs. This film does not deserve the robust Bluray release it has received; I would recommend watching something else instead, like Mysteries of China.

Spectacular, inspiring 3D and message
When projected in 3D onto a large screen with full surround sound this documentary is spectacular. It's appropriate for all ages, particularly young people. It is inspiring both in the variety of topics presented and the varied 3D awe-inducing scenarios. There's good depth into the screen and appropriate detailed effects out of the screen. Versus the often negative and discouraging news about what humanity is doing collectively to our fragile planet, this documents the opposite: that when we put our fabulous minds to it we can indeed accomplish great things. Science jumps out (mainly through the engineering viewpoint) as a force for positive creativity. This is worth watching many times over and takes an honored place in my extensive 3D blu ray collection as "one of the best"! Bravo!

more a stem promo than full on 3d experience
I would give this five stars for giving us another 3d imax flick. I really enjoy the 3d format and have several dozen 3d blu rays. Parts of this satisfied my expectation for 3d shots of major engineering feats, but this rapidly started to feel like a promo for STEM education (worthy of a promo but not what I was expecting). Mixed bag, I wanted a full on 3d experience with major engineering feats and this didn’t really deliver on that. I suppose it is a matter of your expectations. The story well done, it simply wasn’t what I was expecting.

Inspiring for this younger generation
The content is great but it's far from enough. The amazing footages are worth it. I watched it with my 9 year old and she was instantly inspiring. It wow'd her in this day and age. The fact that this item contains the best of both worlds was the primary reason I bought it. I love 3D (it was spectacular) and 4K was just as breath-taking on my Samsung 85" TV. A win-win!

Mostly Not 3D
Much of this is not 3D. The computer graphics do have 3D elements, but it looks like much of the photography was recorded without 3D cameras. The left and right eyes are offset a bit from one another but the offset is the same regardless of distance and therefore doesn't include stereoscopic 3D information. To show what I mean I've included some photos from this Blu-Ray of a bridge extending towards the viewer from a great distance. The photos include both the left eye and right eye channel on alternating lines (as seen on a passive TV).In a proper 3D image we would see a variation in the difference between the left and right images depending on how far objects are from the viewer. However here the offset is consistent across the entire span of the bridge. In fact the distant clouds and the near pillars (and everything else) are all together at the same distance. Some parts of the movie were definitely recorded with 3D cameras, but not all of it. Likewise some parts look to be converted to 3D, which is usually not great, but in this movie looks much worse.I enjoy 3D movies...so much so that I'm working on building my own 3D camera system out of inexpensive components. But poorly done 3D movies, as well as poor conversions, have left this medium needing some help if it's going to receive the glory it's worthy of.For a film with real 3D check out this IMAX Space Station Blu-Ray:https://www.amazon.com/IMAX-Space-Station-Single-Blu-ray/dp/B0044M2OU4/ref=sr_1_1?tag=newcolumbia-20An for some non-3D but truly inspiring films watch:https://amazon.com/gp/search?tag=newcolumbia-20&keywords=794051801524andhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B001BEK8CY/?tag=newcolumbia-20

The case was completely crushed when I received the item. Luckily the disks were not damaged!
The product itself (DVD's) were not damaged, but the plastic case that houses them was completely destroyed. It won't close, all edges are crushed...
