Rockport has always been one step ahead of the times, believing the perfect shoe has not yet been invented. This positive dissatisfaction compels them to constantly improve upon their footwear. Founded in 1971, they were the first company to use advanced athletic technologies in casual shoes to achieve lightweight comfort, and the first company to engineer walking comfort in dress and casual shoes.

Sharp looking and comfortable
I've purchased this brand of shoes before from another vendor -- one that rhymes with crappos. They were cheaper on Amazon, at the moment, so I took a chance. I'm very happy with these shoes and this vendor. The shoes are exactly the same as other quality Rockport shoes I've owned. The leather is soft right out of the box with no break-in period, and the insole cushion is very comfortable. The leather material (I'm assuming it is real leather) also has a nice give to it which prevents creases in the leather which would've made the shoes look old quickly. I ordered the wide fit, and they are a nice width. The sole is somewhat chunky for dress shoe, but the images made that clear before I purchased them. The red wine color dress shoes are excellent because they go well with grey, beige, or blue slacks. Overall, this was an excellent purchase.

Wonderful shoes, but sizing....
These are great shoes at a fantastic price. However, I was very surprised that the sizing was off. I take a 10 D (m) shoe. I typically wear 9.5 loafers. My last pair, Sperry Top-Sider Men's Liberty Loafer, fit beautiful, and were 9.5. These were too big. They seem great, comfortable, but slightly too big (my heal slips out of the show when walking.) Amazon has a great return policy on these, so I am returning them. I went to a local store and tried on a size 9. They fit, but they are snug around the top of my feet. I tried a 9 wide, and it did not work.If I get these, it will take time to break them in, so I am undecided on what I will do. I will probably look for a different brand. I am giving these 5 stars, because they should work great for some people, and you can by with confidence from Amazon, with their return policy

Classic Shoe and Rockport Quality
I have been wearing Rockport Penny Loafers for years. The original pair I bought in the late 80s lasted me six years (three of those working in what we now call a big box store). My only complaints are that the more recent pairs have less internal padding than previous pairs and the fact that they don't last as long as they used to. They're still the "all affair, all the time" footwear of choice. The fit is generally good, if a tiny bit narrow; the arch support is adequate; the tread is solid; and they require little maintenance. (My last pair, I don't think I ever hit them with any wax, conditioner, or polish, and they still look pretty good to this day.) As long as they make these to the existing spec, I'll be buying them.

Finally, a rubber sole on a dress shoe
I've been wearing penny loafers for years now. Most were Florsheim and looked and felt just great. The problem with them was that their leather soles would wear out in no time flat. I usually got about a 1.5 year's work out of them before having to re-sole them at close to $50/pair. No fun. In my quest for a rubber-bottomed penny loafer I came across Rockport's shoe. Although it's only been about a month of use, I've found them to fit nicely with a feel like a house slipper. The rubber soles are solid but extremely lightweight and durable. The inner cushioning of the shoe is terrific. All in all, a great shoe. Also, don't worry about the traction notches in the soles. They don't compromise the look of the shoe one bit. You can wear them for all occasions without feeling as if you're on a hiking expedition. The look is professional. Hopefully, I'll be able to update this review after a year on an equally positive note.

Fit Great and Look Sharp and Dressy but feel so good to my feet
I've always been a fan of Rockport walkers and sport shoes but once you become addicted to Rockport fit and feel everything else just doesn't feel right. I bought these Penny Loafers like the ones I use to get at Jarman Shoes 20 years ago. I was afraid they would look cheap and not like the original Bass Penny Loafers. I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived. They are a perfect copy of the Bass version, well made with whatever craftsmanship is still left in shoe business. But best of all they still fit an fill like Rockport shoes. Not real sure how fashionable Loafers are today for dress up, but I could care less. They look good to me and they feel so great, I don't care what the fashion police might say. It's my feet that have to walk in them. Really look sharp with a business suit. I think I'll keep them. But I do remember form years past they do need a lot of upkeep, like paste wax and shinning. Great shoe at any price but especially great at this price. $20 cheaper than on the Rockport site.

Two Shoes and Two Sizes
After trying on the shoes I noticed that the right shoe seemed a bit tighter around the toe area than the left. I checked the shoes to make sure that they were both the same size and they were (according to what was stamped on both). Being Rockports, I thought it would be just a matter of wearing the shoe for a while and having it stretch out naturally. Well, I'm a flight attendant and wore these shoes on a 4-day trip to "break them in." After just 2 days I was ready to go to work in my socks because the pain was so bad in my right foot. I have never had this issue with Rockports before. By the time I made the decision to return them, I had already thrown out the box and the receipt, so I was stuck with the shoes. The happier ending: I donated them to Goodwill. Maybe someone with two different size feet will get some good use out of them. What I learned: buy my shoes at a physical shoe store and avoid this problem altogether.
